Stožok combines a distinctive cycling route with protected landscapes and cultural landmarks. The Church of the Holy Family and the Zvonička offer contrasting historical points of interest; the municipality is also considered a starting point for marked hiking and cycling routes towards Javorie and Poľana. When planning your trip, it is worth deciding in advance whether you would rather focus on cycling, nature or local architecture.

Culture and cycling

The Church of the Holy Family was built in 2002; the municipality describes it as a cultural landmark. The Zvonička dates from 1863 and was renovated in 1993. Stožok therefore has both a more recent building and a much older bell tower. The Zvonička is on the Hontianska cycling route, linking a cultural landmark with the cycle path. About 250 metres south of Stožok, beyond the settlement of Plžíkovci, there is a monument to the victims of the Second World War.

A circular cycling route starts at Masarykov dvor in Vígľaš-Pstruša and passes through Stožok. The section from Masarykov dvor to Stožok also has a designated paved cycle path, suitable for less experienced cyclists. Stožok is also considered a starting point for marked hiking and cycling routes towards Javorie and Poľana. This information offers several options for planning: a route passing through the village, a paved section suitable for less experienced cyclists, and marked trails towards both natural areas.

Protected areas and landscapes

The Pstruša Nature Reserve is located within the cadastral area of the municipality of Stožok in the Detva District. Covering 7.36 hectares, it protects wet meadow plant communities. The endangered and protected checkered lily grows there in abundance. At the end of April, thousands of blooming checkered lilies can make the area appear red. If you are interested in seeing the flowers, the season is an important part of your planning; this is described as a possibility, not a guaranteed condition.

The Poľana Special Protection Area for birds covers almost the entire municipal area of Stožok. Significant numbers of protected, threatened bird species occur there, including the woodchat shrike, quail, wryneck and middle spotted woodpecker. These species make bird conservation another natural feature of the area.

The Rohy Nature Reserve in Stožok protects the xerothermic vegetation of the Zvolenská kotlina basin. It was designated in 1986 and is designated as an area without human intervention. Rohy is not open to the public for nature conservation reasons. This should be distinguished from the trails above the protected area, which are used by recreational athletes and hikers. From the rocks below Chochuľka, the view looks south towards Stožok, the Zvolenská kotlina basin, Javorie and Ostrôžky.

Activities and getting there

The Stožok sports and recreation complex has a football pitch, a multi-purpose court, a beach court, bowling, a rope course and a climbing wall. A shelter with a fire pit is also available to rent. The options range from ball sports and bowling to climbing and rope activities; when choosing something to do during your stay, you can focus on your own interests.

A regional tourism article published on 17 July 2024 described Farmársky park as open to the public and as a place where families could meet domestic animals. Visitors could feed, brush and observe horses, goats, geese, ducks, chickens, dogs and cats there. The article also mentions interactive, educational quizzes about wildlife and environmental protection. Check the current operating information before visiting.

Stožok is accessible by train, car or bus. You can plan your journey using any of these three modes of transport, then decide which of the village’s cultural, natural or sporting attractions will be the main focus of your stay.
