The municipality of Trnavá Hora extends into the Kremnica and Štiavnica Mountains, and the Hron also flows through Trnavá Hora. Trnavá Hora lies on the southern slope of the Kremnica Mountains, while Kľačany is in their eastern part. Jalná is situated on the northern slopes of the Štiavnica Mountains, in a narrow valley of the Hron. Hiking, cycling and the Hron
The yellow-and-red-marked Budiná hiking trail starts at the bus stop by the parish office in Trnavá Hora. It passes through Kľačany to a forestry hut, where it makes a sharp turn towards the Budiná spring. The trail continues through the Hrabíky valley to the Snoža spring, then descends to the trail junction at Jastrabský mlyn. Its route can therefore be followed through several named waypoints, from the start by the parish office to the junction.
The route through the Kľačianska valley is recommended for cyclists. It offers another way to focus your stay on outdoor activity, while the Budiná hiking trail—with its specific route through Kľačany and past the two springs—provides useful points of reference for planning a hike. The Hron offers another seasonal activity: water sports enthusiasts can travel along it during the summer months. Hiking, cycling and travelling along the river are distinct options to choose from.
Churches, a memorial and local history
The parish Church of St John of Nepomuk in Trnavá Hora dates from 1775. It was built in the Baroque-Classicist style and is listed as a cultural monument. Its date, architectural style and protected status make it a notable historical landmark in Trnavá Hora.
Námestíčko Mekyho Žbirku is at the start of the upper part of Trnavá Hora, on a small plot below the wall of the house where his father was born. A bust of Miroslav “Miro” Žbirka, created by Mgr. Art. Svetozár Ilavský, is the centrepiece of the square; below it is a symbolic Bratislava bench. In Kľačany, the SNP memorial commemorates Peter Kubík. He was an International Brigades volunteer and commander of the 1st Battalion of Captain Ján Nálepka’s partisan brigade. Kubík fell there on 10 October 1944 while fighting the German occupiers.
The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Kľačany is another cultural stop in the municipality; it features a wall design by Hanula. A wooden nativity scene exhibition has been on display in the cultural centre in Jalná since 23 December 2007. These places represent different aspects of local culture: religious architecture, public art, remembrance of local history and an exhibition with a religious theme.
Events and regional highlights
The 15th edition of “Starosvetská mlatba a remeslá” was held in Kľačany in 2026. Its subtitle was “Starším pre spomienku, mladým pre poučenie”. The 2024 edition gave adults and children the opportunity to try activities including pottery, threshing grain, tying sheaves and blacksmithing. Food on offer at the time included goulash—among it pork and tripe goulash—as well as steamed buns, strudel, quark cake and other homemade specialities. Another distinctive attraction is Tralaland, the first children’s holiday republic. It is about 1.5 kilometres from the village of Trnavá Hora, in the direction of Jastrabá, in a valley in the Kremnica Mountains.
