Jošanička Banja lies at the foot of Kopaonik and is part of Kopaonik National Park. Its main spring supplies 7 liters of water per second at a temperature of 77 °C. Flow rate and temperature describe two different properties: the amount of water per unit of time and its warmth. Together with its mountain setting, the thermal water is a defining feature of the town. The bathhouses, the Banjski Borjak area, and marked trails also offer other ways to plan a stay. This gives you a range of different points of interest to consider: thermal waters, bathing culture, a black pine landscape, and mountain activities.
Thermal Spring and Bathing Options
The thermal water is used in baths and outdoor pools. An RTS report dated August 13, 2026, describes both uses. The Novo kupatilo is supplied with water from the main spring for bathing. It has a small pool, eight smaller hydromassage tubs, and a large whirlpool tub. This clearly connects the thermal water to a specific bathing facility: at the Novo kupatilo, both the main spring and the types of facilities are central. The use of thermal water in outdoor pools adds another bathing option.
Two Bathhouses with Their Own History
The Staro kupatilo is a Turkish bath, a hamam, and a cultural and historical monument in Jošanička Banja. It was built in the 18th century. The Novo kupatilo was built in 1935. The two bathhouses thus represent different periods of construction. The name hamam identifies the Staro kupatilo as a specific type of bath, while the year associated with the Novo kupatilo marks a much later date. The town’s bathing culture therefore has two distinct historical reference points: a hamam from the 18th century and another bathhouse dating from 1935.
Black Pines and Recreation
Banjski Borjak is an area of about 29 hectares with black pines and is considered a special natural asset, particularly for health and recreation. The spa complex of Jošanička Banja covers 1.2 hectares and is used for passive recreation. By area, Banjski Borjak is approximately 24 times as large as the spa complex. The comparison also shows two different focal points: black pines and natural value at Banjski Borjak, and passive recreation at the spa complex. The landscape and recreational function thus complement the bathhouses with two further aspects of the town.
Marked Trails in the Mountains
Near Jošanička Banja, marked hiking and cycling trails make it possible to explore the hidden landscapes of this part of the mountains, which is known as the “Green Gate to Kopaonik.” Hiking and cycling offer two different ways to engage with the landscape. This adds an active side of nature to the thermal waters and architectural history. If you would also like to include exploring the mountain landscape when choosing a destination, the trails offer a fitting point of interest. They provide a specific activity, while the name “Green Gate to Kopaonik” captures the connection to the landscape.
