Brzeće is one of the three access routes to Kopaonik National Park. Nearby, you’ll also find natural and cultural destinations such as Jelovarnik Waterfall and Malo Metođe; skiing is among the winter activities. These are just some of the reasons to visit Brzeće.
Access to Kopaonik National Park
Kopaonik National Park can be reached via three access roads: via Jošanička Banja, Raška or Brzeće. Brzeće is therefore one of the designated ways to enter the park. Another specific connection is the Brzeće–Mali Karaman gondola lift: it is 3,741 metres long and covers an elevation difference of 843 metres. The access roads indicate routes into the national park, while the gondola lift connects Brzeće and Mali Karaman. These are two different points of reference for orientation. The length describes the gondola lift route, while the elevation difference represents the vertical distance between its endpoints; the two figures provide different points of reference for orientation.
Jelovarnik: Waterfall and Protected Status
From Brzeće, Jelovarnik Waterfall can be reached via Mramor Pass. The local gravel road Brzeće–Mramor–Zaplanina Mine provides access to the waterfall. A constructed path, about 150 metres long, leads right to it. As a natural monument, Jelovarnik is strictly protected from all activities.
Malo Metođe: Nature and Cultural Heritage
At the edge of Brzeće, on the way up to Kopaonik, lies Malo Metođe, an excursion destination for visitors to Brzeće. Near Malo Metođe, a mountain hiking trail leads to the 4th-century Metođe sanctuary. Metođe is a nature reserve in Kopaonik National Park and a popular pilgrimage site associated with Saint Methodius. The excursion area thus combines a connection with nature with a religious and historical dimension. At Malo Metođe, four watermills stand beside the stream that forms the Graševačka; there are also picnic areas for visitors. The names help distinguish the locations: Malo Metođe is the excursion destination at the edge of the village; Metođe refers to the sanctuary and the associated pilgrimage site.
The two paths also differ in specific ways: a mountain hiking trail leads to the sanctuary, while the constructed path to Jelovarnik is about 150 metres long. This makes it possible to distinguish the destinations by the type of path described.
Winter Activities and Choosing Accommodation
Skiing is one of the winter activities in Brzeće and is seasonal. The Brzeće tourist centre offers options for nature lovers, skiers and mountain hikers. This distinction is useful when planning your trip: skiing is a winter activity, while the local tourist centre also caters to people interested in nature and mountain hiking.
At the entrance to the Brzeće tourist centre stands a ten-metre-high illuminated cross, visible to passing travellers and tourists.
