Kosjerić lies at an elevation of 415 metres in a fertile valley, and offers cultural events and hiking trails with clearly specified distances. For your stay, you can focus on local history, a festival date or a hike. The mountains Povlen and Kozomor give the landscape two distinct elevations, while local history comes to life through a 19th-century han and a monument to the town’s founder.
Valley, Mountains and Hiking Trails
Northwest of Kosjerić, Mount Povlen reaches 1,347 metres; northeast of the town, Mount Kozomor reaches 1,007 metres. Povlen is therefore 340 metres higher than Kozomor; together with the valley’s elevation of 415 metres, these provide three distinct elevations in the landscape.
The hiking trails offer a clear choice of distances. The Kosjerić–Crnokosa educational trail is 6 kilometres long. Čika Veljina staza covers 13 kilometres, running from Olimpijska česma via Brdo Grad to Seča Reka. The 18-kilometre Kosjerić–Divčibare route passes over Crni vrh, which is 1,096 metres high. At 13 kilometres, this trail falls between the other two in length; the range of 6 to 18 kilometres helps you gauge the distance you plan to cover. Before setting out, check current trail conditions and signage.
Sport fishing, mountain hiking and paragliding are also among the sports and leisure activities in Kosjerić and its green surroundings. In Seča Reka, 7 kilometres from Kosjerić, there is a log church dedicated to Saint George. Its present-day appearance dates to 1812.
By the river, behind Hotel Skrapež, there is a sports centre with an Olympic-size swimming pool, two football pitches and courts for smaller sports. If you plan to swim or take part in sports, check in advance which facilities are currently available.
Local History and Culture
The Turski Han in Kosjerić was built in 1854 during the Ottoman occupation. In front of the building stands a monument to Antonije Kosijer, the town’s founder. The history of the building and the memory of the town’s founder thus come together in one place.
The National Library has a permanent exhibition dedicated to Liza Marić-Križanić. It includes 53 paintings as well as other documents and items from her estate. If you would like to visit the exhibition, check access in advance.
Festivals and Regional Cuisine
Čobanski dani is a cultural and tourism event held every year in Kosjerić. It features traditional Serbian singing, handicrafts, traditional dishes and shepherds’ sports games. The 2024 edition’s programme also included exhibitions, souvenir sales, entertainment for children, poetry and music evenings, and concerts.
Zlatne ruke also has a regular place in the annual calendar: the event has been held every year on 28 June since 1982. It aims to revive traditional Serbian dishes and their original methods of preparation. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition in advance.
