Pruten Waterfall, church remains and a 19th-century watermill offer several points of interest for a stay in Babe. Nature and mining history sit alongside religious traces and a building that remains in use. For planning, it is worth considering the trail conditions and historical themes separately. This makes it easier to choose whether nature, medieval history, or local building and use history should be the main focus.

Pruten Waterfall and trails

Pruten Waterfall is in the village of Babe, at the foot of Mount Kosmaj. A steep footpath leads from the main road to the waterfall; trail conditions may change. Include the walk in your excursion plans and check local conditions before your visit. Coming from Sopot, there is a large pull-off along the road for parking.

The trails on the two tours described are wide, well-trodden and easy to walk; no special fitness is required. Conditions may vary depending on the season. A forest trail from Babe leads to slag fields. Conditions on this trail can also vary seasonally; check them before setting out.

Some mine shafts along a trail are unmarked and unsecured; entering them is not recommended.

Churches and mill history

The remains of a medieval church are located at the Crkvine site in the Babe village area. Crkvine is near the ToÄŤak spring. The combination of church remains and a specific landmark makes Crkvine a distinct point of interest. If you are interested in medieval religious history, this is an important reference point.

A church dedicated to Despot Stefan Lazarević is located in the village of Babe near Sopot. Its reconstruction began in 2006; a report dated August 7, 2018, announced the church’s restoration and consecration. The dedication and chronology of the construction work give this place its own cultural and historical focus.

The watermill on the ToÄŤak stream was built in the 19th century and is privately owned. The owner grinds cornmeal there. Building history and continued use come together here. While the church is defined by its dedication and reconstruction, the mill combines its age with a present-day milling practice.

Mining history on Mount Kosmaj

The mines on Mount Kosmaj were of great importance during the Roman Empire. This historical connection concerns the wider Kosmaj area, not Babe alone. The water of Pruten was used to wash and cool the extracted ore. The history of the area can therefore be considered on two levels: the mines in the wider Kosmaj area and the use of water at Pruten. These two perspectives give nature and mining themes a concrete connection without confining them to the same place.
