Chorzów offers several distinct perspectives: the history of iron and steel production, rural building culture, a protected landscape area, and an observation platform with views over the city and its surroundings. You can tailor your stay to specific interests. You might focus on industrial development, historic living and working spaces, or how the landscape and city look from above. These themes can be considered alongside one another without being reduced to a single sightseeing focus.

Industrial history, building culture and cuisine

The Muzeum Hutnictwa w Chorzowie presents the history of iron and steel production during the Industrial Revolution through the former Kościuszko/Królewska and Batory/Bismarck steelworks. These two examples bring the industrial focus to life, with an emphasis on historic production and its development. The Skansen offers a different focus and is an important stop on the Silesian Wooden Architecture Trail. There, you can visit the interiors of residential cottages, farmsteads, agricultural buildings and workshops used by rural craftspeople. This gives you a choice between two distinct cultural themes: industrial production on the one hand, and rural living, agricultural and craft spaces on the other.

The Skansen includes an inn whose menu features traditional Silesian specialities. If you would like to eat there during your visit, check in advance whether food is currently being served. The dishes add a distinct culinary note alongside the living spaces, agricultural buildings and workshops.

Landscape and views

The protected Żabie Doły landscape area covers approximately 226.24 hectares, of which 181.76 hectares lie within Chorzów. The first figure describes the entire area, while the second specifically refers to the portion within Chorzów. This makes it easy to distinguish the size of the protected area from the part within the city. A different perspective is offered by the historic Szyb Prezydent: it has an observation platform at a height of 34 metres, accessible via 201 steps, with views over the city and its surroundings. The height and number of steps provide practical details for planning your visit; check access conditions beforehand. This lets you distinguish between the landscape viewed across a wide area and the view from above.

Silesia as a wider context

In the wider travel destination of Silesia, the Silesian Wooden Architecture Trail in the Silesian Voivodeship includes 97 historic buildings and architectural complexes. The number may change. The trail provides a broader cultural context, with the Skansen in Chorzów as an important stop along the way.

Water-based leisure is also among Silesia’s regional attractions. Lake Żywieckie and Lake Międzybrodzkie are located in the Beskids of the Silesian Voivodeship. Both are used for water sports and other water-based leisure activities. They offer a different focus from Chorzów’s examples of industrial history, wooden architecture and landscape protection.

Looking at Silesia as a whole also opens up another perspective on its cuisine: the Szlak Kulinarny „Śląskie Smaki“ includes restaurants whose menus feature specialities from Silesian, Beskid, Jura and Zagłębie cuisine. To become a member, a restaurant must have the „Śląskie Smaki“ certificate, which confirms the quality and regional authenticity of its dishes. The participating restaurants and their menus may change. Along with the traditional Silesian specialities on the menu at the Skansen inn, this showcases a range of regional culinary styles.
