Głuchołazy combines medieval urban history with hiking trails and a viewpoint above the Biała Głuchołaska Valley. This gives you different options when planning your trip: historic sites in the town, a trail across the Góry Parkowej massif, or walking paths in the park. You can tailor your days according to whether you want to focus mainly on cultural sites or spend time outdoors.

Old Town and historic traces

The tourist information centre is in the heart of the Old Town, next to the Wieża Bramy Górnej. The tower is the most striking surviving part of the medieval fortification walls. Remains of medieval defensive walls can also be seen on M. Curie-Skłodowskiej Street. These places offer tangible points of connection to the town’s history, without requiring you to focus on a single historical period.

The Głuchołaska Izba Pamięci Orderu Uśmiechu has been in Głuchołazy since 2023. Its permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of the Order and the people who received it. The interior of St Lawrence’s Parish Church is Baroque; its Neo-Baroque high altar features a large figure of St Lawrence. The Baroque interior and Neo-Baroque altar bring two distinct stylistic terms together in one building.

The market square offers two more historical points of interest. The Głuchołaska Lipa na Rynku was probably planted after 1648 as a peace tree to commemorate the end of the Thirty Years’ War. There is also a model of the town as it appeared in the 17th century. It was installed to mark the 800th anniversary of the town. The tree and the model thus draw attention to different aspects of the town’s history: a memorial to a historical event and a depiction of the town as it looked at the time.

Hiking trails, views and the park

The Główny Szlak Sudecki im. Mieczysława Orłowicza was extended to Głuchołazy only in 2000. There, it joins the existing red trail. This runs from Głuchołazy across the Góry Parkowej massif and Biskupia Kopa to Prudnik. The route is clearly laid out for hike planning: it links the starting point in Głuchołazy with prominent stops on the way to Prudnik.

Czarcia Ambona is a viewpoint above a rock face that forms the northern end of the Biała Głuchołaska Valley. This gives you a specific reference point for taking in the landscape: the viewpoint, the rock face and the northern end of the valley are all connected.

Park Zdrojowy has walking paths and places to rest. There is also access to a stream where you can wade. As a central part of the former Głuchołazy spa, the park combines exercise with opportunities to relax. For a stay with shorter outdoor walks, it offers a different kind of outing from the hiking route across the Góry Parkowej massif.

Gold mining is also represented in the town: six life-size sculptures of gold miners stand along a path in Głuchołazy. The figures depict different tasks involved in extracting gold. This gives the path a clear theme without assuming a particular route.

Planning your trip

The tourist information centre provides information about the Góry Opawskie and local and regional train and bus timetables. This information complements your orientation in the Old Town with two practical topics: the mountain region and public transport. Whether you focus your stay more on historic sites, the park or a longer hiking trail depends on your own travel interests.
