The history of Neisse’s fortifications comes to life at the 33-metre-high Wieża Wrocławska: the Gothic gate tower was integrated into the city’s 14th-century fortifications. The Miejski Szlak Turystyczny passes the most important historical sights and fortifications of Nysa, forming a 13-kilometre circular route. The Szlak Forteczny has a different focus: it starts in the centre of Nysa and leads to Fort II, and its surviving fortifications can be explored on foot.

Basilica, historic buildings and museum

The Basilica of St James the Apostle and St Agnes was added to Poland’s list of Historic Monuments in 2011. Its bell tower has an observation platform with views of the city, the lake and the nearby mountains. The parish provides audio guides for visitors through its parish office; check their availability before your trip.

After a complete restoration, the Bastion Św. Jadwigi became a tourist attraction and a venue for cultural events. At the Piękna Studnia, the striking feature is the Baroque wrought-iron grille created by Wilhelm Helleweg. The Fontanna Trytona was carved from marble from Sławniowice in 1700–1701. The Muzeum Powiatowe w Nysie is housed in the historic former palace of the Bishops of Wrocław. Its permanent exhibition presents the history of Neisse and the entire region; exhibition details may change. The Gothic gate tower and Baroque grille illustrate different periods in the city’s history.

Trails by Jezioro Nyskie

The paved section of the route around Jezioro Nyskie that runs along the dam is about five kilometres long; in good weather, it offers views of the Sudetes. The route runs along the shore of Jezioro Nyskie and follows EuroVelo 9. It returns to Nysa via the Szlak Kopernikowski, forming a circular route of about 30 to 35 kilometres. These distances refer to two different things: the section along the dam and the complete loop.

Culture, workshops and pilgrimage route

The Nyski Dom Kultury organises concerts, theatre performances, art workshops, festivals and events for residents and tourists. If you would like to attend a specific event, check the dates in advance. The Centrum Produktu Lokalnego is located in the centre of Nysa, next to the Fontanna Trytona. It offers workshops on cooking, baking cakes, decorating gingerbread and making chocolate; check the workshop dates before your trip. Neisse is also on the Nyska Droga św. Jakuba.

At the tourist information point in Nysa, you can get guidebooks, maps and a tourist pass for the Miejski Szlak Turystyczny. Check their availability before your trip.
