The Museum of Polish Song in Opole presents the history of Polish song from the 1920s to the present day and features recording booths for songs, as well as a professional recording studio. This combination of music history and recording gives Opole a distinctive cultural focus; further discoveries range from Piast architecture and geology to regional food trails.

Song History and Culture

The museum is also a cultural center. Its offerings include conversations with artists, concerts, museum classes and educational activities for children. Alongside song history, cultural events and learning are also in focus. If you are planning to attend a particular concert or conversation, check the schedule in advance, as individual events may change.

Architecture from Several Eras

The Castle of the Silesian Piasts in Brzeg was built in the 13th century as a Gothic residence and defensive structure, then remodeled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century. The Museum of the Silesian Piasts is also housed in the castle, bringing the building’s history and the museum together in one place.

In Paczków, surviving medieval defensive walls encircle the town in a 1.2-kilometer-long oval. They have 19 towers and three gate towers; in places, the walls reach a height of up to seven meters. These dimensions give the fortifications a clearly defined outline. The Gasworks Museum in Paczków also houses a collection of gas meters described as the largest in Europe.

St. Hedwig’s Bastion forms part of Nysa’s 14th-century town fortifications. A tourist route runs through its historic passageways and is part of the trail along the former fortifications of Nysa Fortress. The bastion also houses a tourist information point, which informs pilgrims on the Nysa Way of St. James about accommodation and dining options along the route.

Geology and Special Places

Góra Św. Anny National Geopark is one of three geoparks in Poland. A ten-kilometer geological trail for walking and cycling runs through it, with eleven geosites and information boards. The route combines outdoor activity with geological information on site; check current trail conditions before setting out on a walk or bike ride. The sanctuary on Góra Św. Anny is also part of the area’s history: it has been visited by three popes.

At JuraPark Krasiejów, the Paleontological Pavilion protects Europe’s largest deposit of fossils of Triassic amphibians and reptiles. The pavilion is located along the JuraPark visitor route. The Science and Entertainment Park in Krasiejów consists of JuraPark Krasiejów and the Park of Science and Human Evolution. This site therefore brings paleontological finds together with another park area specifically devoted to science and human evolution.

Castle Activities and Trails in Nature

Moszna Castle offers, among other things, guided tours, an app, access to the tower, themed programs and three versions of outdoor games on a permanent basis. Individual programs may change, so check the schedule if a particular offering is important to your trip. The Festival of Blooming Azaleas has been held at Moszna Castle since 1984. If you plan to attend the festival, check the relevant dates in advance.

Several cycling trails run through Stobrawa Landscape Park. These include a marked red trail, which is also suitable for cycling. Check the route and conditions before setting out, so your plans match the trail you choose.

Regional Cuisine as a Travel Idea

The Opolski Bifyj culinary trail was established in 2015 and runs through Opole Voivodeship. It invites visitors to get to know the region through its cuisine. Participating venues include historic restaurants of regional significance, family-run businesses spanning generations and newer restaurants. The trail therefore encompasses different types of dining establishments rather than focusing on a single tradition. The Opolskie Wine Route complements this regional perspective with its aim of promoting wine tourism in Opole Voivodeship.
