The church in Łuzki offers a clear local focus: its timber construction, altars and organ can be explored as a cultural theme. The wider travel area also offers water-based and nature activities, as well as museums. When looking for a holiday apartment, it therefore helps to consider whether your stay will focus mainly on the church or whether you would like to include several of these themes.

The church: building history and heritage status

Construction of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary began in 1936 as a timber-frame building. It was consecrated on 5 June 1938. The Roman Catholic wooden church is listed in the national register of monuments. Its original board cladding remains both inside and out; the former shingle roof is now covered with galvanized metal sheeting.

The church thus combines construction that began in the 1930s with later changes to its roof covering. Those interested in historic wooden buildings will find both the timber-frame structure and specific details about the original cladding and the roof material used today.

Altars, paintings and organ

The gilded main altar, made of oak, dates from 1958 and contains an image of the Virgin Mary. In 1963, bronze crowns were placed on the figures of Jesus and Mary. The two oak side altars were designed by architect Ryszard Grabowski. The paintings of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Joseph are by Zofia Grabska.

The organ can also be understood through its history and construction: it was built by the Włodzimierz Truszczyński company in 1973 and funded by Reverend Marian Bujno. The instrument stands in the choir loft opposite the main altar. Its ten stops are divided between two manuals and a pedal. The furnishings and organ thus add two distinct perspectives to the building’s history: the design of the church interior and its musical equipment.

Water and outdoor activities in the Łosice area

Another focus is the area around the Łosice Reservoir. It has a path for walking and cycling, a small beach, a floating platform, an outdoor fitness area, a children’s paddling pool and a water-environment educational trail. Activities also include Nordic walking, walking, running, outdoor exercise and swimming.

Kayaks and pedal boats may be available for rent, depending on the season. If these activities are important to your trip, it is best to check in advance whether rentals are available during your planned dates. The reservoir area combines outdoor activity, water-based attractions and environmental education, while the church in Łuzki is primarily a cultural destination.

Landscape and regional history

In the wider Bug Valley, glacial moraine hills and meandering rivers shape the landscape. This broader natural area also includes the Podlasie Bug Gorge Landscape Park, nature reserves, gravelly soils and wooded areas. In the wider Łosice area, historic and natural attractions sit alongside forests, a quiet rural setting and developing agritourism.

In Łosice, the Museum of History and Tradition of Waldemar Kosieradzki presents an exhibition about the “Zenon” unit of the Home Army’s 34th Infantry Regiment. It includes 128 photographs from the Second World War. In Niemojki, the National Remembrance Room brings together archaeological, ethnographic, historical and biographical collections, including material on local folk culture and the Home Army. The collection comprises approximately 1,500 to 2,000 objects.
