Twelve or twenty kilometres: comparing two cycling loops in Lipno is particularly easy because both have a clearly defined distance. The chapels add dates ranging from 1933 to the 1980s to the history of the village, and a fruit farm sells seasonal produce. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Lipno, you can first decide whether cycling, historical connections to the village, or seasonal products should be the focus of your stay.
Chapels and Historical Dates
The present-day brick Chapel of St Joseph the Worker was built between 1982 and 1984 and consecrated by Bishop Jan Mazur in 1983. Construction and consecration are two different steps: the period refers to the building work, while 1983 is the year of consecration. A cycling route passing through Lipno points to the chapel at a local road junction.
An older chapel is the roadside Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was established as a public chapel on 6 September 1933. As a Roman Catholic religious building, it is listed in the register of monuments; the listing is dated 21 April 2008. The register date therefore refers to the later listing, not to when the chapel was built.
The Chapel of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary was canonically established as a public chapel on 20 January 1953. Another connection to religious history is Władysław Jędruszuk: he is considered the first bishop of the Diocese of Drohiczyn and was born in the village of Lipno on 19 November 1918. The earliest written references to Lipno date from the 15th century. This makes it possible to distinguish early written references to the village from the precise dates associated with individual chapels.
Two Cycling Routes, Two Distances
The 12 km cycling route “Droga przez wieś” runs from Platerów via Nowodomki, Kisielew, Lipno and Michałów, returning to Platerów.
The 20 km cycling route “Droga do Bugu” runs from Platerów via Nowodomki, Kisielew, Lipno, Kolonia Klimczyce and Mężenin, returning to Platerów. Both start and finish in Platerów and pass through Nowodomki, Kisielew and Lipno. After that, their routes diverge: “Droga przez wieś” goes via Michałów, while “Droga do Bugu” goes via Kolonia Klimczyce and Mężenin. The difference in length is eight kilometres. Since both return to Platerów, you are comparing two round trips rather than a connection between different endpoints. The distance you want to cover is an obvious first point of comparison. As surfaces and route conditions can change, check the current conditions before setting out.
Seasonal Produce from Lipno
The local food scene includes Piotr Dmowski’s fruit farm in Lipno. Seasonal fruit and processed fruit products are sold there. The farm is a specific place to visit if you are looking for local produce. If you plan to visit the shop, check in advance what will be available at the time of your visit.
