When planning a trip around Brzeziny, two distinct perspectives come together: the history of the city of the same name and the landscapes and routes of Brzeziński County. You can tailor your stay to culture, outdoor activities, or a combination of the two.

City History and Churches

In the municipality of Brzeziny, the city of Brzeziny is a prominent cultural and historical focal point. It flourished in the 16th century, thanks above all to cloth-making and brewing. The city also lay on an important trade route from Wielkopolska and Kujawy to Kraków and Rus. Records from 1565 list 460 craftsmen and 30 tavern keepers there. In the second half of the 16th century, with more than 300 master clothmakers, Brzeziny was the largest and best-known cloth-making center in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. These figures give a sense of the importance of the craft at the time.

The Regional Museum in Brzeziny is housed in a Neo-Gothic palace. Its exhibition “The Lost City” explores the legend of historic Brzeziny as “Little Kraków.” The city itself also bears traces of its history: Brzeziny’s market square, now Plac Jana Pawła II, has a medieval layout.

Among the older buildings is the Gothic parish church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. It was built in the oldest part of the city in the 14th century and includes the Lasocki Chapel, dating from the 14th or 15th century. The Baroque Church of the Holy Spirit represents a different period; Józef Lasocki, the city’s owner at the time, had it built in 1750. The Church of Saint Anne dates from 1719, and its sacristy is dated to the 18th century. The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi dates back to the early 18th century. Together, these buildings reveal different chapters of the city’s history, without requiring you to focus on just one period.

Park and Landscape in Brzeziński County

Brzeziny City Park was established after 1945 along ul. Piłsudskiego. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Lasocki family’s English-style garden stood on this site. The park includes a glacial pond dating from around 10,000 years ago. An island in the pond is thought to have been created by adding earth. Here, the history of a more recent park, an earlier garden site, and a much older landscape come together.

For a broader perspective on the landscape, look to Brzeziński County: the river valleys of the Mroga and Mrożyca are among its natural assets. Legally protected areas and features cover 55 percent of its area. Łódź Hills Landscape Park encompasses the western part of the county, including the city of Brzeziny and the municipalities of Brzeziny and Dmosin. The Mroga and Mrożyca Protected Landscape Area covers the municipalities of Brzeziny, Dmosin, and Rogów. There is also the Upper Mrożyca Nature and Landscape Complex in Brzeziny Municipality, the Mroga Valley Complex in the municipalities of Dmosin, Brzeziny, and Rogów, and the Buczyna Janinowska Natura 2000 site (PLH100017), which lies within Brzeziny Municipality.

Choose Routes by Theme and Course

For a walk in the landscape park, follow the green trail and take a connecting path to Brzeziny before crossing the river. Another option for cyclists is a roughly 69-kilometer route through Brzeziny, Paprotnia, Las Wiączyński, Byszewy, Skoszewy, Las Janinowski, and Polik, returning to Brzeziny. Its circular course differs from regional routes that lead to a different named destination.

The recreational trail “Museum in the Landscape – The Multicultural Roots of the Łódź Region” runs from Stare Koluszki via Rochna and Tworzyjanki to Brzeziny. A cycling route with a different theme follows the traces of the 1914 war from Brzeziny via Szymaniszki, Stary Rozworzyn, Michałów, Bronowice, and Tworzyjanki to Kędziorki. If you would rather follow a river, the Mroga Valley walking trail runs from Gałkówek Kolonia along the Mroga to Dmosin Drugi. The routes thus differ in activity, theme, and course. Before setting off, check the current route and condition of your chosen trail.

If you’re looking for hotels in Brzeziny, first decide whether the city’s history or a particular route in the surrounding region is more important for your stay.
