Antonin brings together cultural history and nature. The hunting palace, with its connections to Chopin, the former family burial chapel and the Wydymacz nature reserve offer different points of interest that you can prioritize according to your interests. This means you can explore music and architecture as well as landscapes and nature education in the same place.

The Hunting Palace and Chopin in Antonin

The hunting palace in Antonin was built between 1822 and 1824 for Antoni Henryk Radziwiłł. In the grand hunting hall, a central fluted column is decorated with deer heads and antlers. “Fluted” describes the lengthwise grooves on a column; here, this clean form is combined with hunting-themed decoration. The palace is thus distinguished not only by its architectural history, but also by a striking detail in its interior.

The palace houses the Chopin Music Salon and a museum exhibition dedicated to the composer. The music theme extends beyond these two attractions: the International Festival “Chopin w barwach jesieni” is held regularly in Antonin. If you would like to combine your trip with the festival, check the specific event dates in advance. Both the palace and the festival are part of Antonin’s cultural heritage; this does not establish the festival’s venue.

Burial Chapel and Landscape

Another historic site is the former Neo-Romanesque burial chapel of the Radziwiłł family. Today, it serves as a branch church of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn. Around the church are graves containing the remains of family members transferred from the crypt. The chapel’s former function as a family burial place and its current use as a church exist side by side here.

The hunting palace is surrounded by an extensive landscaped park. The ponds are also part of Antonin’s landscape, but in different contexts: the Szperek recreational pond in Antonin is part of the Przygodzice pond system. In the Wydymacz nature reserve, Staw Wydymacz is a central feature; it covers about 10 ha. Among other things, the protected area preserves the European honeysuckle and mezereon. Szperek as a recreational pond and Staw Wydymacz as the centerpiece of the nature reserve are therefore two distinct water features of the area.

Educational Trail and Routes

The Wydymacz nature reserve in Antonin has an approximately 2 km nature trail. The Wydymacz educational trail starts and ends at the “Ogrodówka” nature and forestry chamber on the grounds of the Antonin Forest District. The chamber houses the permanent exhibition “Spotkanie z lasem.” Its topics include flora, fauna, the wood industry and nature conservation. At the trail’s starting point, a nature trail and an exhibition on forestry and ecological topics are thus linked.

Other routes through Antonin include the red PTTK hiking trail WK – 3666 c and the Pętla Przygodzicka riding loop. They differ in their stated activity: one is a hiking trail, the other a riding loop. Together with the nature trail, they offer different route themes, while the palace, chapel and park provide a cultural and landscape focus.
