Terborg offers several specific reasons to divide your stay between local history and time spent outdoors. On the town’s green edge, the striking white Kasteel Wisch and the surrounding park form a distinctive ensemble. There are also churches with notable construction dates, an evening bell-ringing tradition, two named walking routes and a weekly market. If you choose Terborg as a destination for a short discovery trip, you can plan your days around your interest in culture, walking or the market. When looking for accommodation, the first question is which of these aspects of the town you want to shape your stay.

Kasteel Wisch and local history

The white Kasteel Wisch stands on Terborg’s green edge and forms a distinctive ensemble with the surrounding park. Huis Wisch was first mentioned in 1285. This date marks its first mention and does not automatically indicate when the present-day building was begun. It provides a historical reference point, while today the castle and park can be experienced as a single ensemble.

Churches and the Papklok

On the west side of the Protestantse kerk/Sint-Joris en Barbarakerk stands a three-storey brick tower built in 1746. The choir of the Nederlands Hervormde kerk in Terborg is dated to 1517 and is the oldest part of the building. These two architectural details offer different insights into the history of the churches.

The tradition of the Papklok is also associated with the Nederlands Hervormde kerk. It rings every evening at 21:00. The custom dates back to the time when Terborg had town gates: residents were called home before the gates were closed. The name Papklok comes from the porridge people ate in the evenings at the time. The ringing therefore tells a story not only of a particular time of day, but also of an earlier rhythm of town life.

Walking: Paasberg or Sint Jorisplein

The 6.53 km Rondje Voorbroek passes the elevated Paasberg, an old complex of river dunes. Along the way, the walking route offers views of the grounds of Kasteel Wisch. The route length, landscape and viewpoint are all part of the same walk. If you are planning a walk, you can consider whether this combination of distance and scenery is right for your outing.

The Ommetje Terborg-Etten begins at Sint Jorisplein. This gives you different points of reference for planning: the Rondje Voorbroek has a stated length and landscape features, while the Ommetje has a specific starting point. Route arrangements may change; check the current route before setting out.

Friday market and getting there

A market is held in Terborg every Friday from 13:00 to 18:00. If you would like to visit the market, you can use Friday as a guide when planning your day. Market hours may change, so check them shortly before your trip. Terborg is easily accessible by public transport and has a railway station. Check the latest connections before setting off, as transport arrangements may change.

Find the right hotel for your plans

If you are looking for a hotel in Terborg, choose according to your own plans: would you like to focus your stay on the Friday market, one of the walking routes or the historic buildings?
