In the immediate surroundings of Baubliai, there is a suspension bridge over the Minija and a lock with a special technical designation. Further afield in the region, paddling routes come with specific distances, durations and different difficulty ratings. This makes it possible to distinguish nearby river structures from longer activities and, when planning routes, to consider the duration and rating as well as the distance.

Bridge and lock in the immediate surroundings

The Lankupių kabamasis tiltas suspension bridge spans the Minija and is 130 metres long. The Lankupių šliuzas lock is the only lock in Lithuania designated as a technical monument. The two structures have different points of interest: the bridge is notable for crossing the river, while the lock has a unique designation as a monument nationwide.

Those interested in river structures will find two different features to guide them here: a stated bridge length and a special technical classification. Both names refer to Lankupiai; however, their respective features should be kept distinct rather than treated as one structure or experience.

Compare paddling routes by duration and difficulty

The Kartena–Raguviškiai route is listed as 14 kilometres long, taking three to five hours, and is considered easy. The Aleksandravas–Dauginčiai route is twelve kilometres long, takes three and a half to five hours, and is considered difficult. So the shorter route is not automatically the easier one: the longer route is rated easy, while the shorter one is rated difficult. The time ranges also overlap, so distance alone does not clearly indicate how long a route will take.

If you are choosing between the two routes, compare the duration and difficulty rating together. Check the tour details before setting off. Other routes in the wider Minija region are also mentioned, allowing paddlers to choose their preferred section. Choosing a section and deciding on the travel time are two separate planning considerations.

The Minija: nature, culture and season

The Minija is the largest river in West Samogitia. For water tourism, it is considered one of the waterways with the strongest currents, most bends and greatest interest. The Minija route offers insights into Samogitian nature and natural monuments, as well as the region’s unique cultural heritage. The regional routes therefore feature not only waterways but also natural and cultural points of interest.

May and June are recommended for paddling trips on the Minija. A route offered in Klaipėda District begins in the village of Raguviškiai and ends in Lankupiai. Sightseeing destinations named along the Minija route include the I. Simonaitytė memorialinis muziejus and the Karaliaus Vilhelmo kanalas. This information offers several starting points for planning: a recommended time to travel, the option to choose a preferred route section, and named destinations along the route.
