Dauparai brings together a distinct local history and a regional cycling route: the Pilsoto Ring passes through the village, while historical names and dates make its development tangible. This offers two perspectives for exploring the area—the history of Dauparai itself and a cycling route that places the village within the wider landscape of Klaipėda District. Smiltelė, a rural tourism farm, is also located on the outskirts of Dauparai.

Local History and Historical Names

The history of Dauparai dates from the 16th century to the first half of the 17th century. The village name derives from the personal names Dauparas or Dauperas. An estate was established in what is now the Dauparai area and was known as Didieji Dauparai. In 1785, the place was recorded as a village under the name Mažieji Dauparai. On July 9, 1895, the estate and village were united into one village community. The personal names explain the origin of the village name; the historical names for the estate and village, in turn, mark different stages in Dauparai's settlement history over several centuries.

Culture in the Wider Administrative Area

In the surrounding administrative area, the seniÅ«nija, a festival featuring leisure activities, sports, and concerts is held every year on July 6. Užgavėnės and a sports festival are also held there; guests come to these celebrations from other settlements in Klaipėda District. GobergiÅ”kė Park and outdoor spaces for cultural activities have also been established within this administrative area.

Cycling Route and Landscape

The approximately 80 km-long Pilsoto Ring passes through Dauparai and, on the return leg, runs through the rural landscape of the wider Klaipėda District. The route follows the historic land of Pilsotas and highlights natural and cultural features, especially the Seaside Regional Park. It thus connects the village itself with a longer regional cycling experience. Check the current route before setting out, as route details may change.

The Smeltaitė runs along the southern edge of Dauparai; it is a tributary of the Smeltalė. In the surrounding administrative area, Klaipėda Zoo is a popular day-trip destination, attracting many visitors each year. If you are planning a visit, check the current visitor information in advance.

Smiltelė Accommodation

Smiltelė is described as a modern rural tourism farm for relaxation and family celebrations. The accommodation is located on the outskirts of Dauparai in peaceful surroundings. The grounds include flower beds, ponds, a garden, and an outdoor pavilion for barbecues. Some outdoor facilities may change; if a particular feature is important for your stay, confirm its availability before booking.

From Smiltelė, Klaipėda is about 10 km away by highway, and Gargždai is around 4 km away.
