Revfülöp can be explored from several angles: the two beaches differ in location and facilities, while the Fülöp-hegyi Kilátó lookout tower combines panoramic views with local history. Beaches in the town center and the west
Szigeti Beach is in the town center. Its natural bathing water gradually deepens over a sandy bottom, and there is also a playground. Császtai Beach, in the western part of Revfülöp, has a water slide and a rental service for watersports equipment. These descriptions point to concrete differences to consider when planning: location, the character of the bathing area and the facilities available. Facilities and services may change; check in advance whether the rental service is currently available.
The location within the town can also guide your plans: Szigeti Beach is in the town center, while Császtai is in the west. A lookout tower with historical significance
The Fülöp-hegyi Kilátó lookout tower was built in 2001 to plans by Gyula Pelényi. It commemorates the millennium of the founding of the Hungarian state. Alongside this historical significance, the panorama is a key reason to include the tower in your exploration of the town: visitors can enjoy sweeping views from there. Its year of construction, dedication and views make the tower a different focal point from the beaches—and connect a specific viewpoint with Hungarian history.
Local collection and regional themes
The Benke László Honismereti Gyűjtemény contains historical, ethnographic and geological materials. Local schoolchildren collected them under the direction of László Benke, who was the local school principal. The collection thus brings together different approaches to local and natural history: history, everyday culture and geology sit side by side. Together with the lookout tower, it offers a cultural counterpoint to a beach visit, without prescribing a particular order for your stay.
More to explore in the wider Lake Balaton – North destination
Beyond Revfülöp’s local attractions, the wider Lake Balaton – North destination offers other distinct themes. Boat trips are available in the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang, which also has a guided exhibition called “Csodálatos karszt” (“Wonderful Karst”). The cave is part of a system beneath the town that has so far been explored over a length of 14.6 kilometers. This makes underground karst a regional highlight alongside Revfülöp’s beaches and lookout tower.
Another landscape highlight in the wider destination is Hegyestű, a 337-meter-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. The inner side of a basalt volcano that was active about eight million years ago is exposed there. At the viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry site, visitors can identify the surrounding hills using a panorama board. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types from Transdanubia, the western half of Hungary. Here, geology is brought to life through the landscape, orientation and rock samples.
Badacsony is also part of the wider Lake Balaton – North destination. The volcanic mountain has distinctive geological formations known as basalt organ pipes. Special grape varieties are grown on its slopes and used to make Badacsony wine. Thus, alongside caves and rock formations, the region also offers vineyards and the local wine designation they produce.
