The Late Baroque Szent-István Church and the horse-riding opportunities at the Equital Equestrian Centre give Nemesvita two distinct points of interest: local history and horse riding. A tourism development carried out in Nemesvita also resulted in a lookout tower and a hedge maze. In addition, the wider Balaton North destination offers other, independent nature, culture and leisure themes.

Church, riding lessons and tourism development

The Szent-István Church in Nemesvita was built in 1778 in the Late Baroque style; the construction was funded by the congregation. The year of construction provides a specific historical reference, while the style offers an architectural one. The funding adds information about who supported the project to its history.

The Equital Equestrian Centre in Nemesvita offers riding lessons for beginners as well as experienced riders; lessons are tailored to each rider’s ability. If riding lessons are part of your travel plans, check availability directly with the centre before your trip.

A unique lookout tower and a hedge maze were also created as part of a tourism development carried out in Nemesvita. Both are results of this project.

More themes in the wider Balaton North destination

Boat trips are offered in the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang, along with the guided exhibition “Csodálatos karszt”. The cave is part of an underground cave system beneath the town, which has so far been explored for 14.6 kilometres. Those interested in this regional option will find a combination of boat trip, exhibition and cave landscape here—a different focus from the church and horse-riding opportunities in Nemesvita.

Hegyestű, the 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló, offers a geological perspective. It reveals the interior of a basalt volcano that was active around eight million years ago. At the lookout point on the western edge of the quarry grounds, visitors can identify the surrounding hills with the help of a panoramic information board. A rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia adds to the geological perspective. This brings together landscape viewing with practical information about rocks and orientation.

Badacsony offers a different focus within the wider Balaton North destination: the volcanic mountain has hiking trails and panoramas for hikers. Special grapes are grown on its slopes and used to produce Badacsony wine; geological formations there are known as basalt organ pipes. Badacsony is in Veszprém County on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, opposite the town of Fonyód. Compared with Hegyestű, the local themes here also include hiking trails and viticulture, alongside landscape and geology.

Porcelain is at the heart of Herend. The Herend Porcelain Museum features a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions on the history of the manufactory. The visitor centre provides an introduction to porcelain production, the techniques involved and the traditions of applied arts. In workshops, visitors can handle porcelain clay and a brush for painting. Herend thus offers a focus on culture and craftsmanship that differs from the landscape and geology themes of the wider destination.
