Dunakiliti offers a range of reasons to stay: the Danube branches provide opportunities for activities on the water, while churches, chapels, a castle and a distinctive oak tell the story of the village. When planning your visit, you can focus on nature, fishing and canoe trips, historical details or the village festival in June. Walks in a natural setting offer another option.

Danube branches, riverbanks and activities

At the Kisrévi-Duna-ág in Dunakiliti, there are opportunities to relax by the water and go fishing. The waterway is also located in Dunasziget. The Danube branches on the edge of Dunakiliti are also suitable for canoe trips and fishing. Fishing and spending time by the water are therefore recurring options; a canoe trip is another activity you can consider when choosing what to do.

Particularly protected riverbanks are among the village’s tourist attractions. These include the area around the Bozi Bridge and the Kisrévi-Duna-ág. If you prefer to explore on foot, there are opportunities for walks in a natural setting. The small Pintér híd footbridge crosses the Kisrévi-Duna-ág between Dunakiliti and Tejfalusziget. It is a specific landmark by the water, while the protected riverbanks shape the scenic character of the attractions.

Churches, the castle and local history

Dr. László Batthyány-Strattmann, who was known as the “Doctor of the Poor,” was born in Batthyány Castle. A memorial room in the castle was established in 2000. Countess József Batthyány, née Batthyány Ludovika, had the Batthyány Chapel built in 1875. These places and dates offer different historical points of interest: László’s birth is part of the castle’s history, while the chapel dates to a later period.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Szent Kereszt Felmagasztalása) was renovated in 2010. It has three naves, pointed vaults, pointed-arch windows and rose windows. A small chapel beside the entrance houses a relic of László Batthyány-Strattmann, who was beatified in 2003. The neo-Gothic Roman Catholic church in Dunakiliti is also known for its coloured stained-glass windows. Pointed arches and pointed vaults define its architecture; the windows add another distinctive detail.

Tejfalusziget also has a family chapel that is part of the village’s history: Bozi Mihály began building the Szent Mihály-kápolna there in 1935. Together with the Batthyány Chapel, it shows that local history is not limited to the castle. Visitors interested in buildings and when they were built can discover a variety of historical connections within the village.

Village life and a place to rest

The Péter-Pál-napi falunap has been held on the last Saturday in June since 1994. The programme includes a communal village breakfast, an agricultural parade, a fair and a festival. If you are planning a trip for late June, you can take this recurring event into account when choosing your travel dates.

The Millenniumi tölgy (Millennium Oak) in front of the church offers a different kind of local connection. In 1896, residents planted seven oak trees; six later died, and the remaining oak is known as the Millenniumi tölgy. In summer, its canopy shades a bench beneath the tree, where visitors can rest. The tree’s history and a practical place to take a break come together in this specific location.
