Kerekegyháza offers a variety of reasons to visit: an annual harvest festival, a church with a triangular floor plan, and leisure activities at Kerekerdő Adventure Park. The two festivals take place at different times of the year; the building’s history and the park’s activities offer other points of focus for planning your trip.

Harvest traditions and cauldron cooking on set dates

The Aratófesztivál is held every year on 19 August in Kerekegyháza. The festival features demonstrations of bread-making and dough-kneading, mechanical threshing, milling, and shelling corn. The demonstrations draw on old folk customs associated with the harvest. Anyone interested in traditional ways of working will find several different demonstrations at this event.

Another annual event is the cauldron-cooking competition at Kereki Majális, held on the second Saturday in May. It focuses on local flavours and culinary traditions. The two events therefore have different emphases: the Aratófesztivál focuses on harvest customs and demonstrations, while the competition celebrates cauldron cooking and local food culture. Check the programme for the relevant year before travelling.

Church architecture and activities at the adventure park

The Catholic church in Kerekegyháza was built in 1929 to plans by architect Fridrich Lajos. Its triangular floor plan is adapted to the shape of the plot. The construction date, architectural attribution and floor plan each offer a different point of interest in the town’s and the building’s history.

At Kerekerdő Adventure Park, activities range from rope courses and an archery range to a forest nature trail, a maze, a trampoline, strategic airsoft games and a petting zoo. A separate Manópálya course was also built for families with small children. The activities vary considerably, so choose according to the themes that interest you. Check which facilities are currently operating before your visit.
