The Dune (Garmada) Study Trail gives a stay in Fülöpháza a specific focus on nature and landscape. The educational trail is 8.5 km long and has 14 information boards. They cover the area's current natural values, its distinctive flora and associated fauna, as well as the human impact on the landscape in this core area of the national park.

An educational trail with two possible endpoints

The trail starts at the Naprózsa Forest School and has two alternative endpoints: one in the centre of Fülöpháza and one at Somodi Farm. When planning your visit, both the distance and your preferred destination are important. Birds found in the Fülöpháza Sand Dunes area include the golden oriole, hoopoe, European roller and bee-eater. These species complement the information boards' topics with specific examples from the birdlife of the dune area.

Naprózsa House and getting there

Naprózsa House is a starting point for excursions into the dune landscape. Visits to the house are possible by prior arrangement. It is near the Lakos-tanya bus stop, which can be reached from Kecskemét by scheduled buses travelling along Road 52 towards Dunaföldvár. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the current service with the operator. This allows you to include the stop and your pre-arranged visit to the house in your plans without relying on a fixed departure time.

More topics in the wider destination of Bács-Kiskun

Looking beyond Fülöpháza to the wider destination of Bács-Kiskun reveals other distinct topics. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár educational trail explores the history of the Bronze Age fortification and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site in Bács-Kiskun; it was designated as such under Decree 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. In Tiszaalpár, a reconstruction of an Árpád-era village, built to mark the millennium, depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations.

In Kiskunhalas, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum, admire centuries-old lacework and see the lace-making process. The history of Halas lace began in 1902. This makes it part of the region's offering of crafts and textile culture, alongside the landscape and history themes of other places.

The trail lengths also offer a specific comparison between two educational trails in the wider destination: the Dune (Garmada) Study Trail in Fülöpháza is 8.5 km long, while the Boróka Trail in Bugac is 1,100 metres long. Along the Boróka Trail, information boards are complemented by activity stations such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope. The two trails therefore differ in their stated lengths and the features mentioned along the way.

At Lake Szelidi, the Blue Algae Educational Trail pairs another landscape focus with information: its 12 stations cover the lake's development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there and the wildlife of the surrounding area. The lake is a natural oxbow formed after the Ice Age from an arm of the Danube. The trail is accessible on foot and by bicycle year-round; local conditions may change.

For information about the wider destination, the Természet Háza in Kecskemét is the visitor centre of Kiskunság National Park. It provides information about educational trails, visiting conditions for protected areas, the national park's ecotourism programmes and forest schools. This is a regional point of reference in its own right, alongside the specific nature and landscape experiences that Fülöpháza offers through its trail and Naprózsa House.
