Explore Heede’s landscape on foot or by bike: trails run through the Heeder Tannen, and there is also the Heeder Tannen Tour; the Amt Rantzau has other cycling routes. The Krückau flows through the municipality. Oaks shape the larger woodland areas as broadleaf trees, and the municipal landscape also includes inland dunes with heath vegetation. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether hiking, cycling or both will be the focus of your stay.

Woodland, river and hiking trails

The Heeder Tannen are easy to reach from Heede and have walking and hiking trails. The area lies within Heede, Langeln and Lutzhorn. The Krückau hiking trail is primarily a walking route, but cyclists may also use it. From Barmstedt, the route reaches the Heeder Tannen and continues east.

In some sections, land in flood zones lies alongside the Krückau hiking trail; the ground there may be wet. Allow for the possibility of wet patches and check local conditions before setting out.

Cycling routes and the Bronze Age

The Heeder Tannen Tour offers clear figures for planning a bike ride: the route is 24 km long, rated easy and listed as taking 1 hour and 22 minutes. The distance indicates the length of the route; the stated duration provides a time estimate. As the tourism operator may update the route details, check them before setting out if you are planning your time around them.

Along the way, the tour crosses meadows and fields before reaching the woodland of the Heeder Tannen. Just before Langeln, it passes an impressive Bronze Age burial mound site. Woodland animals may be seen along the way, but sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed.

Cycling routes cross the entire Amt Rantzau administrative area, including the long-distance Ochsenweg cycle route. It passes through Langeln and is approximately 230 km long—a very different scale from the 24 km Heeder Tannen Tour. Burial mounds along the Ochsenweg in Langeln date to the Early Bronze Age, around 1700 to 1100 BC. This gives route planning an archaeological dimension as well as a focus on nature.

Melkhus Heede as a rest stop

A rest stop for cyclists, Melkhus Heede is a farm café and a place to take a break. It is located between woodland and meadows, by the natural upper reaches of the Krückau. Locally produced dairy products such as yoghurt, quark and ice cream are available there.
