The Tornesch Apple Trail combines a walk with old apple varieties: it runs alongside an orchard featuring numerous historic varieties, whose apples visitors may taste for free. Tastings depend on the seasonal availability of the fruit. The trail leads from Neuendeicher Weg via the canal embankment and Loheisterweg towards Heimstättenstraße.

On foot, by the water and by bike

Those looking for a different focus will find Tornesch am See, a central waterside leisure area. It has a multi-generational playground, a covered rest area, picnic benches and exercise equipment. A walk along the lakeshore is another option. While the Apple Trail combines a walk with seasonal tastings, the lake is all about play, rest and exercise by the water.

For cyclists, the Ox Trail is another point of reference: Tornesch lies on this cycle route, which runs from Wedel to Denmark. There are rest areas for cyclists and walkers in Tornesch; shelters are located in the northern moorland and in Esinger Wohld. This makes it possible to include different kinds of activity and suitable breaks in your daily plans.

Culture and special dates

The Mölln-Hof Folk Museum focuses on agriculture and everyday domestic life. Its collections span around 800 square metres across two floors. Exhibits include tractors and agricultural equipment, items related to dairy farming and peat extraction, traditional workshops, an old kitchen and historic washing equipment. The exhibition areas offer visitors a range of thematic focuses, from working in the countryside to everyday life at home.

From May to October, the museum is open on the first Sunday of each month from 2 to 5 pm, on activity days from 11 am to 5 pm, or by appointment. When planning your visit, check the date: the monthly Sunday opening starts later than an activity day, and both end at 5 pm. Check opening times before setting out.

The municipal observatory on the roof of Klaus-Groth School offers a different kind of visit that depends on specific dates. During astronomy nights, visitors can observe the starry sky through a large telescope. If you plan to include this activity, check the specific date of the astronomy night in advance.

Horse-riding activities are also available in Tornesch. These include riding lessons, dressage and show jumping on school horses, as well as trail rides, pony walks and holiday programmes. As specific stables and programmes may change, it is best to check your preferred option with the provider in advance.

Separate destinations in Pinneberg

Pinneberg, the wider travel destination, offers its own excursions with different focuses. Pinneberger Fahlt is a woodland area and local recreation spot in Pinneberg Municipal Forest, used for walking, jogging and sports activities. The Tree Park brings together the 26 “Trees of the Year”. The idea originated as part of the International Garden Show igs Hamburg 2013, in the Pinneberger Baumschulland exhibition area.

Drosteipark, just behind Pinneberg town centre, offers walking paths as well as opportunities for sport and exercise. The Drostei is the cultural centre of the Pinneberg district; its programme includes exhibitions, concerts and literary events. Another cultural venue is the Pinneberg Tree Nursery Museum, the only museum in the German-speaking world devoted to the tree nursery industry. These attractions are in Pinneberg and add to the wider travel destination, not the list of places in Tornesch.
