Get to know Sebnitz through a remarkably specific craft: Deutsche Kunstblume Sebnitz still makes artificial flowers by hand using traditional methods—a craft that has been part of the city since 1834. There is also city history to explore, collections featuring historic rooms, and activities at SoliVital.

Artificial flower making and city history

At Deutsche Kunstblume Sebnitz, visitors can watch the individual stages of flower making and try their hand at “Selberblümeln” themselves. This makes the craft accessible not only as a tradition, but also as a hands-on experience.

Special tours are available for visitors with mobility or visual impairments. There is also an elevator and convenient parking for cars and buses.

The Municipal Collections and the Africa House invite visitors to explore art, culture and regional history in the museum buildings at Hertigswalder Straße 12–14. The Museum of Artificial Flowers and City History in Sebnitz has more than 12,000 exhibits and a museum library with more than 3,000 titles. Historic rooms on display include a weaver’s workshop, the office of an artificial flower manufacturer, a homeworker’s room, and Baroque and Biedermeier rooms.

The Municipal Collections document key periods in the history of the border region and the city across three floors. The Historic City Walk starts there and leads through the historic city center. It shows how Sebnitz changed from a linen-weaving town into a city of artificial flowers. Another project also draws on this industrial history: the planned BlĂĽmelpfad (Flower Trail) will link former artificial flower production sites in the city center and tell the story of the buildings and factories.

Activities at SoliVital

SoliVital in Sebnitz offers an indoor playground, a climbing hall, a soccer arena, a fitness and health area, a bowling alley, a rehearsal room and dining facilities. SoliVital is also the starting point for Borderless Trails, a cross-border mountain biking area between Saxony and the Czech Republic. This brings together a range of leisure activities and a dedicated mountain biking focus at one designated starting point.

Hiking in the Sebnitz tourist area

The Sebnitz tourist area provides access to hikes in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Rock formations, valleys, forests and viewpoints shape the landscape. When planning longer hikes, it is worth distinguishing these landscape impressions from the specific routes available across the wider travel destination.

Hiking trails in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains

Two very different hiking experiences are available in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains. The 116-kilometer Malerweg (Painters’ Way) runs through the national park region and is for hikers only; it cannot be explored by bicycle or e-bike. Overnight accommodation is available at hotels, guesthouses or a campsite. The 105-kilometer Forststeig Elbsandstein trail runs through the Saxon Switzerland protected landscape area and offers official bivouac sites and trekking huts. The two trails thus differ both in how they can be used and in the types of overnight accommodation mentioned.

In the national park region, blue markings indicate long-distance hiking trails, red markings indicate regional trails, and green or yellow markings indicate local trails. In the national park’s core zone, visitors may use only marked or signposted trails.
