The Dahleaue around Cavertitz is characterized by wide meadows and extensive woodland. Together with its historic buildings, the landscape offers a range of reasons to visit.
Routes and Landscape
The municipality has a dense, well-signposted network of cycling and hiking trails. There are also bridleways in the heathland and forests. You can therefore focus your activities on cycling, hiking or horseback riding.
The Dahlener Heide has been a protected landscape area since 1967. A regional figure published in 2024 puts its hiking trails at around 254 kilometers. Nordsachsen district also includes the DĂĽbener Heide, Wermsdorf Forest, and the floodplain landscapes along the Elbe and Mulde rivers. This places Cavertitz within a larger landscape region without equating its distinct landscapes. A 21-kilometer section of the approximately 67-kilometer Obstland Route runs through Nordsachsen district.
Local History and Architecture
Cavertitz was first documented in 1240. The Church of Cavertitz is a Romanesque fortified church dating from the 12th century, making it older than this first written record. GestĂĽt Sachsen is an estate complex dating from the 13th century. Its historic coach house and riding stable can be visited by prior arrangement; arrange your visit before you arrive.
The Zeuckritz post mill was built in 1865 and extensively restored in 1996. A visit requires advance registration with the municipality of Cavertitz. Arrange this before you arrive.
Schirmenitz and Olganitz also offer different connections to church and local history. Schirmenitz Church was built in the 12th century. During the Battle of MĂĽhlberg in 1547, Emperor Charles V and his brother Ferdinand stayed in the Schirmenitz rectory. Olganitz Church brings together Romanesque, Baroque, Neoclassical and Historicist elements. The recently renovated hall church has a baptismal font and carved figures among its notable furnishings.
Lampertswalde is home to a former manor house dating from the late 14th century. A well-maintained park with rare botanical features, a restored gardener's house and a castle café add to the appeal of the place.
Plan Your Routes and Journey
For cyclists, there are two particularly direct connections in the municipality: Zeuckritz is connected to the Leipzig-Elbe cycling network, and Schirmenitz to the Leipzig-Elbe cycling route. Check the current route before setting off if you plan to include these places in your ride.
In Schöna, a wildlife enclosure near the entrance to the Dahlener Heide is a popular excursion destination. To travel from Leipzig Central Station, take the RE50 to Oschatz and change there to bus 802 to Schöna, near Cavertitz. This connection does not go to the center of Cavertitz.
