Ebersbach’s natural landscapes include forests, protected pond areas and floodplains. Several well-marked hiking and cycling trails also run through the municipality. Outdoor activities and a variety of landscape features are thus part of the area’s character. When choosing a destination, you can consider Ebersbach both in terms of opportunities for walking and cycling and in terms of its forests, ponds and river floodplains.

Hiking and Cycling Trails in a Varied Landscape

Several well-marked hiking and cycling trails run through Ebersbach. Both hiking and cycling are available locally. When planning your visit, you can start by deciding whether walking or cycling will be the main focus. The trails describe the active side of a stay; the landscape features complement this perspective with the character of the natural environment.

The municipality’s forests include the Rödernsche Heide. Protected pond areas are located at Vierteich near Freitelsdorf and Neuteich in Kalkreuth. The floodplains of the Große Röder and the Hopfenbach are also part of the landscape. Forests, ponds and river floodplains therefore offer distinct natural features, giving a stay more than one landscape focus.

The natural environment also includes the Mittlere Röderaue and Kienheide Landscape Conservation Area, as well as several designated natural monuments. Together with the pond areas, these protected sites broaden the view of the landscape beyond the hiking and cycling trails. If you choose a destination based on its natural features, you can therefore take both your preferred activity and the landscape types into account.

Getting to Ebersbach

Ebersbach is accessible from the A13 via the Radeburg or Thiendorf exits; the municipality is also close to the B98. If you are travelling by car, you can therefore consider either of the two A13 exits, while the B98 provides another road route.

Culture and Wine in the Wider Meißen Destination

In Meißen, the wider destination, the focus is on the city’s history and craftsmanship. At the visitor centre of the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, you can see how Meissen porcelain is shaped and painted. The Meißen City Museum illustrates the city’s development with historical models and large exhibits on viticulture, Elbe fishing and navigation. It also displays typical Meissen porcelain and ceramic products. In addition to its permanent exhibition, the museum presents special exhibitions that change twice a year.

Albrechtsburg Castle in Meißen also tells the story of the Wettin dynasty. Its exhibition uses virtual presentations and interactive media stations to introduce visitors to the castle. The HistoPad offers an interactive discovery tour with augmented reality and 3D presentations; nine time portals take visitors back to the 15th century. Exhibition displays may change, so check what is currently on show before visiting.

In the wider Meißen destination, you can also discover Meissen wine: it can be tasted in the city of Meißen and in the surrounding Elbe wine villages along the river. The Saxon Wine Trail links Pirna, Dresden, Radebeul, Meißen and Diesbar-Seußlitz over approximately 90 kilometres. This offers a choice of different experiences: wine tasting in the city or Elbe wine villages, and a walking route connecting several places.
