A hiking trail runs between Förstgen-Ost and Mücka through ponds, forest and heath. The Mücka Heath area is designated as a nature reserve. Another trail option is the Kreba-Neudorf nature trail; Mücka is also a rail access point for the Seeadlerrundweg.

Hiking in the Mücka Heath

The hiking route through the Mücka Heath runs between Förstgen-Ost and Mücka through ponds, forest and heath. The nature reserve provides an important setting for the tour. Please observe the visitor restrictions posted locally.

Points of interest on this hike include the local history museum in Mücka and the Mücka forester’s lodge. The forester’s lodge was formerly an administrative office of the biosphere reserve. If you plan to visit the museum or the lodge, it is best to check visitor access in advance.

Walking and cycling loops

The 14-kilometre Kreba-Neudorf nature trail offers walking loops of 3 or 6 kilometres, as well as a 5-kilometre cycling loop. On foot, you can choose between two loop distances; there is a separate loop for cycling. It connects with the Seeadlerrundweg, Neißeland and Heidedörfer routes.

The two walking loops can be compared by length, while the cycling loop is a separate route option connected to three named tours. Check local conditions and trail signs before your outing.

Rail access to the Seeadlerrundweg

The Seeadlerrundweg is around 88 kilometres long and lies in the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve. Mücka is a rail access point for the route: you can join it from Mücka station on the RB64. Check the timetable before travelling if you want to coordinate your arrival with your tour.

For planning, note that these are two separate details: the approximate length of the circular route and rail access at Mücka.

Görlitz: architecture and urban history

The wider destination of Görlitz has its own focus on urban history and architecture. The historic old town contains around 4,000 listed buildings and is one of the best-preserved historic ensembles in Central Europe. Untermarkt is the historic heart of the city, surrounded by townhouses from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Schönhof was rebuilt in the Renaissance style after a city fire, beginning in 1526. It is the main building of the Silesian Museum in Görlitz and is one of the oldest Renaissance buildings north of the Alps. Görlitz’s St. Peter’s Church is Saxony’s largest hall church.

St. Peter’s Church is also home to the Sun Organ. Eugenio Casparini built it toward the end of the 17th century; it can imitate birdsong. This gives Görlitz a distinct urban cultural focus alongside the nature-oriented trail options around Mücka.
