Seifhennersdorf lies within Zittau Mountains Nature Park, in a scenic location in the Upper Lusatian border region. The Karasek Museum and the Karasek Circular Trail connect local history with a hiking route, while the nature park, museums and other leisure facilities offer more to discover.

History at the Karasek Museum

The Karasek Museum is dedicated to various chapters of local and regional history. These include the former Bohemian enclave of Niederleutersdorf; the museum also presents the history of robbers, smugglers and poachers. A separate exhibition, “Everyday Life in the GDR Back Then,” explores daily life in the GDR. This brings together a range of historical topics without reducing local history to a single era.

The exhibits include farmhouse, bedroom and weaver’s rooms furnished with original items from around 1800. These rooms complement the historical topics with tangible insights into rural living and working spaces. Visitors interested in history can relate the rooms to the exhibition on everyday life in the GDR and the museum’s other topics.

The Karasek Circular Trail and its starting points

The Karasek Circular Trail is a 3.42-kilometer loop hike. Information boards along the route mark historic sites and viewpoints. One starting point is above the Querxenland children’s holiday center; there are also other starting points. This gives you a sense of the route’s circular layout, stated length and points of interest along the way.

Guided tours on the Karasek Circular Trail are offered by the Leutersdorf trail warden and the Karasek Museum in Seifhennersdorf. If you plan to take a guided tour, confirm its availability before your trip. To travel from Zittau by bus, you can take line 30 to the Waldschlösschen stop. Check the connection before you travel, as the route may change. You should also check route and access information before setting out.

Hiking destinations and more to discover

The Karasek Circular Trail is a single loop route with information boards about historic sites and viewpoints. In addition, Zittau Mountains Nature Park has 13 nature trails, some of which cross the border into the neighboring Lusatian Mountains in the Czech Republic. The border crossings also make it possible to take trips and hikes in Bohemian Switzerland National Park and the North Bohemian volcanic landscape of the Lusatian Mountains. Alongside the local loop, there are therefore more hiking and excursion destinations to choose from, some of them across the border.

The Nature Healing Park has an outdoor classroom and a playground. The Railway Museum explores the history of model railways, from tin toys to advanced models. Seifhennersdorf is also home to KiEZ Querxenland, a holiday camp with sports fields and other leisure facilities. These attractions offer different experiences: nature and learning, model railway history, and sports and leisure facilities.

Seifhennersdorf Windmill

The Seifhennersdorf Windmill has a glamping meadow and a swimming pond. Cultural events are also held there, and regional delicacies are available. Events and culinary offerings vary over time. If you include the windmill in your accommodation plans, confirm that the facilities are available before booking.
