Explore Hohendubrau through several distinct highlights: nature and trails in Dauban, cherry avenues and historic buildings in Groß Radisch, and leisure activities in Thräna and Jerchwitz. Weigersdorf adds a look at church and community history. If you are planning an overnight stay, first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your visit.

Trails and Views on Monumentberg

The Hohe Dubrau hiking area near Hohendubrau includes the 293-meter-high Monumentberg, a restaurant, an observation tower, and a playground. As the facilities’ availability may change, check the latest information before your visit.

The observation tower on Monumentberg is open from April 1 to October 31 between 07:00 and 20:00. It is closed from November 1 to March 31, except by prior arrangement. The tower must not be climbed during storms, thunderstorms, hail, or severe icing. Take these time and weather restrictions into account when planning your visit.

A 2.7-kilometer circular route, rated easy, starts in Groß Radisch and follows forest paths and streams. Groß Radisch is seven minutes from the highway. There are also hiking trails around the former elk enclosure in Dauban. Check trail conditions before setting out on the circular route, as they may change.

Nature in Dauban

The Daubaner Wald nature heritage area is in the Dauban district of Hohendubrau and forms part of the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve. Natural features in Dauban include an orchid meadow, wild gladioli, and several ponds. The former elk enclosure is now home to wild horses, and hiking trails run around the grounds.

Village History in Groß Radisch

The cherry avenues in Groß Radisch are more than 200 years old and are part of the village’s traditional cultural heritage. The well-maintained avenues invite visitors to stroll and linger. Another historic landmark is the white Protestant church, built in 1802. The monument honoring Johann Carl Adolf von Nostitz was erected the year before, in 1801. The dates are just one year apart.

More Places and Local Activities

In Thräna, the former forester’s lodge is a historic building. The village has a long tradition of beekeeping and fish farming. Leisure activities there include a wildlife enclosure with a playground, a Gaudi-Golf course, and a wildlife lodge.

In Jerchwitz, an alpaca and horse farm is a popular destination for animal lovers and children. Weigersdorf offers a different focus: the St. Trinity congregation was founded in 1843, and its church was built in 1846. The congregation holds Sunday services and offers activities for children and adults. Exact dates may vary.
