A circular walk through the history of the former spa park, a water tower linked to the local water supply, and a memorial stone at the railway station give Klotzsche tangible historical points of interest. The picture is rounded out by the Old Church, which has a clearly defined seasonal opening period. Playport Dresden at Dresden Airport offers a separate indoor outing.
The historic Waldpark as a circular walk
The experience trail “The Historic Waldpark Klotzsche” is a circular route in Dresden-Klotzsche and was created in 2017. It brings the former spa park in the Dresden Heath back to life. At around 3 km, the route has a specific, though approximate, length. The trail includes ten information boards as well as old foundations and the plinth of the King Albert monument. A tennis court and a spa meadow are also part of the experience trail. This brings explanatory boards, structural remnants and named features together on the same route. The approximate distance helps you gauge the length of the walk and include it as a separate activity in your day’s plans.
The experience trail can be reached by tram line 7 and bus lines 70, 78, 80 and 308 to the “Zur neuen Brücke” stop. Check the current timetable before setting out. This gives you both the length of the circular route and a specific stop for planning; the walking time cannot be determined from the distance alone.
Water tower and memorial stone
The water tower in Klotzsche was built in 1935 to replace the elevated reservoirs that had previously supplied water to the area. These reservoirs were demolished from 1934 onward as part of the airport construction. This sequence of events makes the tower a record of the local water supply during a period of changing infrastructure. Its significance in local and technical history lies not only in the structure itself, but also in its role as a replacement.
At Klotzsche railway station, the Quosdorf memorial stone commemorates Friedrich August Quosdorf, founder of the Königswald. The Klotzsche Beautification Society had the stone erected in 1856. Together with the water tower, it offers a different perspective on local history from the circular walk: here, the focus is on the water supply and a person remembered by name.
Old Church: a seasonal window for visits
The Old Church in Klotzsche is part of the tradition of Saxon-style Baroque Protestant church architecture. Its features include a pulpit altar and an organ. A pulpit altar combines the pulpit and altar in a single altar structure; this feature is therefore both a specific element of the church’s furnishings and an indication of its architectural and ecclesiastical history. The church is open on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 pm between May and September. If you are planning a visit, schedule it during these hours and check the current opening times in advance.
Indoor play at Dresden Airport
Playport Dresden is an indoor playground at Dresden Airport. It offers a large climbing structure with a maze and slides, trampoline areas and a football pitch. There is also a spider tower, climbing trees, a separate area for toddlers and a sled-on-rollers slide. Playport is therefore quite different in nature from the Waldpark circular walk and the local historic sites: here, the focus is on indoor play and climbing structures, while the latter offer a walk and a look at local history. If you are weighing up different kinds of activities for your stay, you can take this distinction into account when planning.
