In Perl-Borg, the Roman Villa Borg has been reconstructed: a Roman villa rustica with archaeological treasures. Guided tours are offered in German, French, English, Dutch and Luxembourgish. From Roman villa to hydropower
A different glimpse into the past awaits at Fellenberg Mill in Merzig. Machines are still powered and demonstrated using water power in its operational precision-engineering workshop dating from 1927. This historical experience differs considerably from the reconstructed villa in Perl-Borg: here, the focus is on the mill technology in action.
The Historic Düppenweiler Copper Mine also offers its own way to explore history. The experience includes an underground tour with the “Mystallica” audiovisual multimedia system. Gardens, play and events
The Garden of the Senses in Merzig comprises eleven themed garden spaces and a children’s play garden. Events are held there regularly, including the Rose Days in June, with a rose and garden market as well as expert advice. It’s worth checking the current event dates before your visit.
Beckingen’s SaarGarten features a sculpture park with a boat landing, a playground and a football golf course. Art, play and exercise come together here as different elements of a garden. Trail networks and the Saar landscape

One distinctive natural landmark is the Bietzen healing spring. It bubbles up between the Saar and the B51 road, at the turn-off to Bietzen, and is considered the only healing spring in Saarland. Nearby, a 1,250-metre-long treetop walk runs through the forest above Cloef. It ends at a 42-metre-high observation tower with panoramic views of the Saarschleife and the surrounding landscape. Unlike Merzig’s extensive trail network, this is a single route with a precisely stated length.
Annual events
The Viez Festival in Merzig takes place every year on the first Saturday in October. Check the date for the relevant year before travelling. This makes it easy to include this recurring event in your plans without confusing it with the Rose Days, which also take place at a set time of year, in June.
