At Roscheider Hof, discover the folk culture of the Moselle and Saar regions in reconstructed houses and farmsteads. You’ll also find Roman relics, trails through forests and vineyards, and views of the Saar’s confluence with the Moselle. If you’re planning an overnight stay in Konz, you can shape your day around these varied highlights.
Folk culture and Roman traces
The Roscheider Hof Open-Air Museum presents the folk culture of the Moselle and Saar regions. Extensive permanent exhibitions and reconstructed, furnished houses and farmsteads offer insights into the 19th and early 20th centuries. The buildings are themselves a tangible part of the museum’s subject: they show how homes and farm buildings were laid out during those periods.
The Saar Bridge, known as the Roman Bridge, also points to Konz’s Roman building history. A Roman bridge once crossed the Saar here, carrying an important long-distance road. The Roman poet Ausonius mentioned it in 371. The Imperial Palace is a separate site: the complex in Konz dates from the 4th century and was probably imperial. Ausonius also mentions it in his Mosella in 371 AD.
The history of Karthaus Monastery spans several distinct periods. Built between 1670 and 1830, it was destroyed during the French Revolution. From 1855, Franciscan nuns rebuilt the ruins, following the Baroque plans. Bahnhofstraße is also home to the restored steam locomotive 064 393-2, known as “Bubikopf.”
The Saar confluence: activity and quiet moments
At the Saar confluence, a triangular sculpture provides a place for peace and meditation. The area is used by cyclists, anglers, water sports enthusiasts and walkers. Cyclists will also find the quiet “Panoramablick” area, where they can stop and look out over the river landscape. The sculpture and viewpoint offer different experiences, while leaving the place open to a range of uses.
Hiking between forests, vineyards and viewpoints
The Konzer Höhenrunde is rated a premium trail and alternates between forest and open vineyard landscapes. Viewpoints at Falkenhof and the “Himmelsschaukel,” as well as seating, offer places to pause. The Konzer Panoramaweg, by contrast, is a circular trail through Konz-Roscheid and the Konzer Tälchen. Along the way, you can enjoy views of the river landscape and town; the route also passes the Roscheider Hof Open-Air Museum.
To choose between the two hikes, consider what matters most to you: the Höhenrunde focuses on changing landscapes and viewpoints, while the Panoramaweg offers a circular walk with views of the town and river landscape, as well as a section alongside the museum. Trail conditions, signage and facilities may change; check the latest route information before setting out.
Cycling routes for different goals
The E-Bike-Tälchen-Tour starts and ends in Konz. It passes through the wine-growing villages of the Konzer Tälchen, follows the Saar Cycle Route to Saarburg, and returns via the Mannebachtal. The route description gives a clear idea of the course without specifying a particular duration or distance.
The Kidstour Saar-Radweg offers a different kind of ride: it follows a flat, separate cycle path to an adventure playground and a barbecue area on the banks of the Moselle in Konz. Conditions at the play and barbecue facilities may change, so check their current status before making the stop a firm part of your plans. This makes it easy to choose between a ride through several towns and a route with a specific destination in Konz.
