Kenn brings together village history, wine country and outdoor activities. Peaceful vineyard paths, direct access to the Moselle Cycle Route and the historic village centre offer different ways to enjoy a stay. If you’re looking for hotels in Kenn, you can choose based on whether you’d like to focus on cycling, walks, wine or history.
Roman history in the village centre
The Herrenbrunnen is considered the oldest surviving village fountain in the Trier-Saarburg district. It probably dates from around 1500, features Late Gothic characteristics and was restored in 2025. A different chapter in the area’s history began with the large Roman villa estate that stood in Kenn at a place called Canna; Canna means “reed”. Kenn’s historic village centre developed on the remains of the estate. The fountain points to an approximate date of around 1500, while the estate marks the town’s Roman past.
The local history museum is a fully furnished farmhouse with more than 800 exhibits on rural life in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is currently closed; check whether access is possible before planning a visit.
Wine country and walks
The Kenner Flur beside the Moselle is farmland with gravel and sand. Above Kenn, the landscape rises from vineyards through orchards to woodland. The peaceful vineyard paths are suited to leisurely walks and offer a practical way to explore the slopes on foot. Kenner Held and Maximiner Hofgarten are the local vineyard sites; both belong to the Probstberg vineyard district.
Roman Wine Route and wine tastings
Coming from Trier, Kenn is considered the gateway to the Roman Wine Route. It stretches from Kenn to Leiwen and includes 19 holiday resorts. The area accounts for 20 percent of the Moselle wine-growing area, equivalent to 2,000 hectares. Wine tastings at nearby wineries are one regional option. In many places along the Moselle, Straußwirtschaften serve winemakers’ dishes with wines to match. Opening periods vary from one establishment to another; if interested, check what is available on your travel dates.
Leisure and cycling
The Bernhard-Becker recreational facility has a playground, football and basketball areas, and spaces for skateboarding and roller-skating. The Kneipp pool offers a peaceful way to relax and unwind. Local facilities thus range from several active pursuits to a quiet break.
Kenn has direct access to the Moselle Cycle Route. A cycling trip from Kenn to Trier is also recommended as a suitable day trip. The Trier-Saarburg district’s cycling plan lists a total of 492 kilometres of cycle paths.
Weigh up your priorities when choosing accommodation
If wine or history is your main focus, the local vineyard sites, the Herrenbrunnen and the village centre shaped by Roman history offer distinct points of interest.
