Walks, hiking trails and quarries each offer a different experience in Lindlar. In the leisure park, accessible walking paths run alongside a pond; the Stonemason Trail focuses on the quarries and greywacke, while fossil hunters search large blocks of stone with a hammer and chisel for fossils millions of years old. If you are looking for hotels in Lindlar, you can start by considering which of these activities will shape your stay.

Leisure Park and Historic Town Centre

Lindlar Leisure Park is a 5.6-hectare public park. Its network of accessible walking paths runs alongside a pond. The park also has an adventure playground with a tyre swing, slide, zip line and climbing castle. The different areas offer a variety of reasons to visit, from a walk by the water to spending time on the playground.

Free concerts are scheduled on the park’s own concert stage from May to September. Check the individual dates in advance. Motorhome travellers have two free pitches at the leisure park or park baths, as well as close to the LVR Open-Air Museum Lindlar and the historic town centre. Electricity, water and wastewater facilities are available; check current availability before travelling.

Stonemason Trail and Fossil Hunting

The 6.2-kilometre Stonemason Trail is a circular hiking route and Bergischer Streifzug No. 8. It leads from Lindlar town centre to the quarries on the Brungerst. Eight information boards and two audio stations accompany the trail. Guided hikes offer visitors background information about the quarries, greywacke and the oldest forest in the world. Check the availability and booking conditions for guided hikes before planning your visit.

Another way to explore the quarries is to go fossil hunting: visitors can search large blocks of stone with a hammer and chisel for fossils millions of years old. This activity is for groups and families and is offered daily from April through October, except Sundays and public holidays. Check the dates and booking conditions in advance to make sure this seasonal activity fits your plans.

More Things to Explore in the Oberbergischer Kreis

The Oberbergischer Kreis also has its own cultural and natural attractions. At the LVR Open-Air Museum Lindlar, craftspeople demonstrate traditional crafts on a different theme each day. For route planning, five Bergisches Land hiking maps show the complete, current hiking trail network of the Rheinisch-Bergischer and Oberbergischer districts. Check the edition of the map before purchasing.

The Höhenroute takes its name from the beautiful landscape and unique views from the hilltops. It starts at the Nümbrecht Kurpark hiking car park, is signposted throughout and can also be navigated by GPS using Outdooractive. As signposting and navigation details can change, check the information before setting off. On the Klangpfad in Homburger Ländchen, visitors can experience silence and the sounds of nature. The original Klangpfad was developed by the municipality of Nümbrecht together with the Oberberg Biological Station.

For cyclists, the Wasserquintett route starts and ends at Marienheide station. Many sections follow disused railway lines with gentle gradients, making them suitable for e-bikes and touring bikes. The Talsperrenroute passes four reservoirs in the area around Marienheide, WipperfĂĽrth and HĂĽckeswagen. Three audio features provide information about the flora, fauna and animal habitats around the reservoirs.

Swimming spots are also part of the region’s appeal: in a notice dated 19 May 2026, the Oberbergischer Kreis lists a total of 13 official bathing areas at the Agger, Bever, Brucher and Lingese reservoirs. According to the notice, water quality met the requirements of the EU Bathing Water Directive and was monitored regularly throughout the season. Check the current season status before planning a day of swimming.
