Grevenbroich offers a range of ways to enjoy a stay: culture and regional themes at Villa Erckens, local history on guided tours, and activities in green spaces or on the Erft. You can choose what to do based on whether you are more interested in exhibitions, wildlife watching, outdoor activities, or the town’s history.

Culture at Villa Erckens

Villa Erckens is a vibrant cultural and exhibition centre in the green heart of Grevenbroich’s town centre. Its permanent exhibition covers around 370 m². In colourful themed rooms and with interactive activities, it offers innovative and entertaining ways to explore regional perspectives on language, landscape, energy, food and drink, religions, celebrations, and work. The many themes have different areas of focus, from everyday life and work to landscape and energy. Exhibition content may change; if a particular theme is important to your plans, check what is currently on display in advance.

Wildlife Park and Green Routes

At the Bend wildlife park, visitors can observe up to 200 wild and domestic animals in naturalistic enclosures. There is also a petting zoo where visitors can interact directly with some of the animals, as well as a large playground. The paved forest paths are easy to navigate by wheelchair or mobility scooter.

From central Grevenbroich, you can cycle or walk south past SchloĂźpark and the Old Castle, through the Bend, and along the Erft past Gustorfer MĂĽhle and Welchenberg to the Bergheim town boundary. Check local conditions before setting out. The former state horticultural show grounds in the town centre have northern and southern green spaces along the Erft, inviting visitors to enjoy extended walks and bike rides.

Ian Hamilton Finlay Park offers a different experience: it is laid out as a woodland park, with works of art carefully integrated into the setting. On the Erft, recreational athletes can paddle or canoe from Grevenbroich towards either Bergheim or Neuss. Local water conditions may vary; check in advance if you are planning a trip.

Local History on Guided Tours

Guided tours of Grevenbroich explore the town’s founding around 750 years ago and what its street plan reveals about its history. The focus is on how the town came into being and its spatial layout. For up-to-date arrangements for the tours, contact the organiser.

Cycling in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss

The Rhein-Kreis Neuss also offers a regional setting for cycling tours. Its cycling infrastructure covers around 1,200 kilometres, with a numbered-junction network and clear signage. The Rhine Cycle Route, Erft Cycle Route, Fietsallee along the Nordkanal, Lower Rhine Route, and Hanseatic Cycle Route run through the district; all of these routes are signposted except for the Hanseatic Cycle Route. The Two Rivers Tour also links the Rhine and Erft in a circular route through the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. This regional information refers to the Rhein-Kreis Neuss; routes and activities in Grevenbroich are described separately above.
