Alt Tellin has a clear connection to cultural history through its Dutch windmill: it recalls the development of the village into a farming and crafts village. A scenic cycling route also passes through Alt Tellin. Other cultural and landscape-related attractions are found across the municipal area, including Schlossgut Broock as well as HohenbĂĽssow and SiedenbĂĽssow.

Dutch Windmill and Cycling Route

The Dutch windmill is an attraction in Alt Tellin. Its significance extends beyond the building itself: it recalls the development of the village into a farming and crafts village. This destination is therefore not only about a historic building, but also about Alt Tellin’s history as a farming and crafts village.

Route 2, “On Both Sides of the Tollense,” follows a scenic cycling route through Alt Tellin. In the wider region, it is listed as approximately 44 km long, or approximately 47 km with a detour. The route is rated moderate. These approximate distances refer to the entire tour, not just the section through Alt Tellin. Based on these approximate figures, the detour adds about 3 km. Road surfaces and route conditions may vary; check current conditions before setting out.

Culture Across the Municipal Area

Schlossgut Broock comprises an almost completely preserved historic manor complex with a manor house, stables, riding hall and Lenné Park. The complex is a monument of particular national cultural significance. Exhibitions in the manor house cover the history of the Broock estate complex and its residents, garden culture at Broock, and finds from Broock. The exhibition on garden culture includes a walk through Lenné Park, where information boards explain historical points of interest.

Specific access conditions apply to the exhibitions: they are generally open during public events. Groups of ten or more can visit by prior arrangement and appointment. Check the event dates before travelling or book an appointment as a group. At public events, activities take place in the manor courtyard, in the riding hall or beneath the old trees in Lenné Park.

The manor complex also includes a village shop with a café and beer garden. Offerings include homemade cakes, coffee specialities made with the steam engine, changing regional treats and tarte flambée; regional specialities and Broock products are also available. Opening arrangements and product selection may change. Check the latest information before planning a visit.

Hohenbüssow and the Municipality’s Landscape

HohenbĂĽssow lies in the middle of the Tollense Valley Landscape Protection Area. From around 1825 to 1865, the village was a spa town listed in the German spa directory. Specific traces of this history are still visible: the assembly hall built in 1826 can be seen, as can the remains of the former bathhouse. In the historic church, the pulpit altar and the pews for the pastor and patron date from the mid-18th century.

The landscape details, too, apply to the municipal area, not just the village of Alt Tellin. The approximately 1,000-metre-wide Tollense glacial valley runs from east to west and divides the municipal area. The Buchholz Heights reach 96 m at their highest point and offer wide-ranging views across the countryside. The municipal area therefore brings together contrasting landscapes: the Tollense Valley near HohenbĂĽssow and the heights with their expansive views.

In SiedenbĂĽssow, a restored manor house with its own park is now home to a biker hotel. The house is also available for elegant celebrations. If this particular house is an option for your accommodation plans, check that it is operating before travelling.
