Klein Trebbow can be explored through two distinct themes: the history of the tea house and the connection between the landscape park and the fish trail at Lake Trebbow. This can help you decide whether to focus on memorial sites, church art, or the landscape during your stay.

Commemorative Culture and Church Art

The tea house in Klein Trebbow was used in spring 1944 for preliminary discussions related to the assassination attempt of July 20, 1944. In 2004, the Trebbow Tea House was inaugurated as a memorial site for resistance to dictatorships, civic courage, and civic engagement. Its historical use and later function as a memorial represent two distinct periods. Visits are only possible as part of scheduled events; check in advance which dates are available.

The church in Groß Trebbow houses a Baroque pulpit-and-altar ensemble by the Wismar master Wilde, created in 1689 and 1691. The church in Kirch Stück has a different focus: the stained-glass window in the north choir window dates from around 1300 and depicts a Crucifixion scene and a knight. This offers a chance to compare two different art forms: the Baroque interplay of pulpit and altar on the one hand, and medieval stained glass featuring figures on the other.

Landscape, Park, and Lake Trebbow

Klein Trebbow lies in a small terminal moraine landscape characterized by woodland, farmland, a park, and avenues of trees. The avenues connect the five districts. The local landscape therefore includes the parkland, woodland, and cultivated fields.

The protected Klein Trebbow landscape park has been developed as a natural and recreational area, with the aim of improving the visitor experience as well. The park, which reopened in 2026, serves as a place for locals and visitors to meet and relax. In July 2026, it was recognized as one of the region’s defining historic parks. The park development described at the time included a new jetty and the fish trail at Lake Trebbow; the trail reopened in July. It provides information about native fish, aquatic ecology, and sustainable fishing. The park thus combines its role as a natural and recreational area with a specific educational offering focused on water.

Northwest Mecklenburg on a Larger Scale

As a broader travel destination, Northwest Mecklenburg offers a wider perspective on the landscape. In the north, the district encompasses the “Northwest Mecklenburg Hills with Wismar Bay” landscape area, and in the south, the “West Mecklenburg Lake District with Lake Schwerin.” Terminal moraine ridges, gently undulating ground moraine plateaus, steep and flat coastal sections, meltwater and drainage channels, and outwash plains shape the landscape of Northwest Mecklenburg. This regional variety complements the closer view of Klein Trebbow’s terminal moraine landscape, woodland, farmland, park, and avenues without equating the landscapes.

Gadebusch Castle is also part of the cultural context of Northwest Mecklenburg. The Renaissance castle, dating from 1573, is located in Gadebusch in the district and is a rare example of Mecklenburg or North German Brick Gothic Renaissance architecture. Reliefs in the regional Johann Albrecht style add to its architectural significance.
