In Neverin, historic buildings meet the BĂĽrgerpark around Haussee Lake. The water tower tells the story of the town; in the park, a walk can be combined with a stop at the site of the former motte-and-bailey castle. There is also the local KTO leisure centre and its range of sports and leisure activities. This makes it possible to plan a stay around different aspects of the town without treating them as one and the same.
Historic Buildings in Neverin
The granary and the church are among the buildings that bear witness to Neverin’s historic development. Another striking feature of the townscape is the water tower, which is now protected as an industrial monument. The estate owner Jasper von Behr-Negendank had it built. During a comprehensive renovation, sturdy metal-grating staircases were installed in the tower, making it accessible for the first time. An information board for visitors summarises key facts about its history and was dedicated to the water tower on its 100th anniversary.
The water tower is therefore interesting not only as a building: its history is also explored on site. The board provides a specific point of reference if you are interested in the town’s development. The former motte-and-bailey castle, meanwhile, can be found in the Bürgerpark—not as a surviving castle complex, but as a historic site whose history is brought to life there.
BĂĽrgerpark, Haussee Lake and Liebesinsel
The Bürgerpark extends around Haussee Lake, which lies in the middle of Neverin and invites visitors to linger, walk, relax and play. This makes the park a focus in its own right, alongside the historic buildings: here, it is all about spending time by the water and among the greenery, while the granary, church and water tower turn the focus to Neverin’s built heritage.
A board by the old knight’s oak provides information about the former motte-and-bailey castle. The place now known as “Liebesinsel” was once its site. A visit to the park therefore also offers the chance to discover a historic point of interest. When planning your visit, you could consider these park features together with Haussee Lake, and treat the buildings as a separate item on your itinerary.
KTO and Community Life
KTO is Neverin’s local leisure centre and offers sports and leisure activities. KTO can also be hired for events and seminars. Check the specific booking terms before making plans.
A rest area with seating was set up by the sports ground at KTO. It is also open to people who are not cycling. The rest area is therefore relevant not only for a bike ride, but can also serve as a place to stop without a bicycle.
The Neveriner Dorfclub KTO e.V. makes a significant contribution to cultural life in consultation with the municipality. One example from 2025 was the third garden walk with a plant swap in Neverin. It was open to everyone, regardless of membership in the village club. This describes a specific past event, not an upcoming event. The Mecklenburg Lake District as a Wider Travel Region
Beyond Neverin, the wider destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District offers a broader setting for nature experiences. MĂĽritz National Park is part of the region and is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and wide meadows. Its hiking trail explores this landscape in nine stages: it passes lakes, runs through primeval forests, follows inland dunes and reaches the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours there, including guided walks in the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest of Serrahn and tours from the water.
The Damerower Werder bison reserve is another of the region’s nature attractions. Visitors can observe the animals there; a forest adventure trail offers climbing opportunities, an ant house, an exhibition with touch-and-look panels, and a dendrophone. These destinations represent the region on a wider scale, while Haussee Lake, the Bürgerpark and the historic buildings focus on Neverin itself.
