Neddemin lies in the Tollense Valley, a glacial meltwater valley. At the same time, the L 35 runs through the village from Neubrandenburg northwards to Altentreptow. This brings together a clearly defined transport route and a landscape of glacial origin as different perspectives. Neddemin therefore offers a concrete setting for choosing a place to stay, combining its location, park and local history.

Location and orientation

When the L 35 was modernised, pavements, street lighting and bus stops in Neddemin were renewed. This adds changes to the streetscape to the geographical orientation: the road marks the route through the village, while the renewed facilities are part of its modernisation history.

The Tollense Valley offers a different perspective. Neddemin lies in a glacial meltwater valley.

Park and traces of history

In 2009, Neddemin Park was expanded with a playground offering climbing, sliding and swinging facilities for children. This date provides a more recent point of reference alongside the village’s historical memorial sites.

The Barnewitz family tomb from Hohenmin is located in Neddemin’s churchyard. It dates from the mid-19th century and is designed in the form of a Doric temple. Here, a precise location, a historical date and a specific architectural form come together.

A medieval granite baptismal font is associated with Neddemin and was later placed in the manor garden. One aspect of the manor house’s construction history also remains uncertain: August von Oertzen is considered its likely builder, but this attribution is not certain; Max Lemcke is another possibility.

The Mecklenburg Lake District as a wider setting

Within the wider travel destination of the Mecklenburg Lake District, Müritz National Park offers a distinct focus on nature and walking. Forests, bogs, lakes and expansive meadows shape its landscape. The Müritz National Park hiking trail showcases the park’s landscape types and distinctive features over nine stages: it runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. The stages and landscape forms give the hiking experience a different focus from Neddemin’s local history.

Nature experiences in MĂĽritz National Park also include tours led by certified nature and landscape guides. These include informative guided tours, among them visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest in Serrahn, as well as tours from the water. This adds guided options to the hiking trail without suggesting that the two offers provide the same experience.

Another distinct destination in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder bison reserve. It is located on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heide Nature Park; visitors can observe the animals there. The reserve also has a forest adventure trail with climbing activities, an ant house, an exhibition featuring tactile and visual panels, and a dendrophone. Compared with the nine stages of the national park hiking trail, this path is characterised by individual stations and sensory experiences.

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can start by deciding how to plan your trip: would you like to focus on Neddemin, its location in the Tollense Valley and its traces of history, or would you also like to include destinations in the wider Mecklenburg Lake District? These are two different scales for planning your trip—the village itself and the wider variety of regional attractions.
