Tarmstedt offers a variety of things to explore during your stay: art throughout the town, historic buildings and a moorland trail nearby. The Tarmstedt Culture Trail, run by the Kultur-Forum SG Tarmstedt, features several large-scale artworks along the main road near the primary school. Locally, this stretch of the main road is known as “Unter den Linden”.
Art and history in town
The “Unter den Linden” sculpture park is also located along Tarmstedt’s main road. Its exhibits showcase works from and about the village. The Culture Trail and the sculpture park offer different highlights: one features large-scale artworks along the road, while the other presents exhibits with Tarmstedt itself as their subject.
The Tarmstedt Spieker is a building dating from 1754, with a bakehouse on Bremer Landstraße. It is privately owned by the Thölken family and served as a local history museum for many years. St. Petri Church is a brick building dating from 1722. Another historic landmark is Jan-Reiners Eck on Bremer Landstraße, at the corner of Bauernreihe. The memorial site commemorates the narrow-gauge railway “Jan-Reiners”, which ran between Bremen and Tarmstedt from 1900 to 1956.
Moorland trail and guided tours
Near Tarmstedt, the moorland trail winds through the flora and fauna of the Tarmstedt Moor. Along the way, you can spot cotton grass, purple moor grass and downy birch, learn more about the wildlife that lives there and discover the history of peat extraction. Nature watching and insights into the moorland landscape go hand in hand with a look at how it was used in the past.

Reason for travel and planning your dates
The Tarmstedt Exhibition is another reason to visit. It takes place in Tarmstedt every year on the second weekend in July; the 2027 dates are listed as 9–12 July. If you are travelling for the exhibition, plan your trip around that weekend. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether the exhibition or the art, local history and moorland trail will be the main focus of your trip.
