Kirchtimke combines hiking trails with an unusual church history and an unheated outdoor pool. The NORDPFAD Timke-Wälder trail passes St. Lambertus Church, while the Timkebad offers something different. When planning your visit, you can give local history, a hike and—depending on seasonal availability—a swim different levels of priority.

Hiking between the town centre and Schierk

The 18.1-kilometre NORDPFAD Timke-Wälder trail starts at Willenbrocks Gasthaus in Kirchtimke. In the village, it passes St. Lambertus Church, which is located in the centre. A shelter in the Kirchtimker Schierk is situated on the “Timker Wälder” trail. In a notice dated 10 June 2025, the municipality described it as a popular destination for hikers and day-trippers.

Another route leads from Kirchtimke to the Schierk state forest. At first, it partly follows a narrow path through fields and past boggy birch woods. This gives you a choice between the signposted NORDPFAD, whose length is specified, and the route to the forest, which passes through fields and birch woods.

St. Lambertus Church and cultural history

St. Lambertus Church combines a stop in the centre of the village with a long building history. It was rebuilt in 1739 because the previous church had become too small and dilapidated. During renovations in 1962, relics were found inside a hollow oak crucifix. The crucifix was wrapped in cloth and inscribed with the names of Saints Lambertus and Pankratius; sand from the Holy Land was also found with it. The relic gave the church its present name.

The motor mill in Kirchtimke is another cultural attraction. Together with the church, it forms part of the area’s cultural highlights, while the hiking trails turn your attention to the landscape.

Timkebad and nature in the municipality

The unheated Timkebad outdoor pool has a children’s pool as well as a non-swimmer area and a swimming area. Facilities also include a sunbathing lawn, volleyball and play equipment for children; refreshments are available too. The pool adds a swimming option to the hiking and cultural attractions. Check seasonal availability before your visit.

Bullensee is located in Ostertimke, within the municipality of Kirchtimke, and is a nature reserve. Access on foot is not permitted, so do not plan it as a destination you can walk around.
