The approximately 100-hectare Bremervörde Nature and Adventure Park is located on Lake Vörder. Admission is free. Sailing, surfing, rowing and stand-up paddling are all possible on the lake. This means the park and water sports offer different ways to enjoy the same body of water.

Nature and architectural history on Lake Vörder

The Haus am See stands on the shore. It is a Lower Saxon farmhouse with a thatched roof, rebuilt in 1986. It is based on the Tietjen half-timbered farmhouse, built in 1861 in Ostendorf, Farm No. 1. The coach house and barn were also faithfully rebuilt. The building’s history links an older house from Ostendorf with its later reconstruction on Lake Vörder. The Haus am See houses a restaurant for day-trippers, a country inn, a brewery taproom and an event venue. If you plan to eat there, check the current food and drink options in advance, as these details may change.

Museums and industrial history

The Bachmann Museum focuses on geology and archaeology. It is housed in the last surviving building of Bremervörde Castle, a 400-year-old chancellery and stables building. Among its best-known collection objects are an approximately 4,600-year-old Neolithic wooden wheel from Gnarrenburg-Karlshöfen and two fossil whale skeletons around 12 million years old. These objects represent very different periods: the wooden wheel dates from the Neolithic, while the whale skeletons are millions of years old. The museum’s exhibition is currently closed to visitors due to extensive renovation work; the museum park remains open for a stroll through Bremervörde’s history. Check whether the museum has reopened before your trip.

In Bevern stands the listed Pape brickworks, a well-preserved industrial monument and a tourist attraction in the region. Visitors can walk through the Hoffmann kiln, machine house, drying sheds and workers’ house. Information panels explain how bricks were made in the past. This offers a way to explore industrial history through several types of buildings, rather than treating it as an abstract concept.

The museum on the ground floor of the Old Town Hall in central Bremervörde offers a different cultural perspective. It houses around 220 works by Otto Tetjus Tügel, collected by Hein Meyer. The collection has its own artistic focus alongside the geological and archaeological themes of the Bachmann Museum.

Harbor, Moorexpress and cycling tours

Bremervörde Harbor is the last navigable, tide-dependent harbor on the Oste and also the starting point of the German Ferry Route from Bremervörde to Kiel. It adds a maritime perspective on the Oste and a long-distance route to the water sports on Lake Vörder.

The historic Moorexpress is also worth considering when planning a trip around Bremervörde. It runs from late April to early October along a route of just under 99 kilometers, with more than 20 stops. Special services are also available during the winter and Christmas season. The operating season may vary by timetable year, so check the schedule for your travel year before making plans. A bicycle carriage allows you to take your bike along and combine a cycling tour with a train journey.

There are four local themed routes around Bremervörde, suitable for relaxed day trips. The 50-kilometer Ostekultur Route offers nature and cultural experiences along the Oste. This gives cyclists a choice of several themed day routes as well as a specifically described route with its own cultural and natural focus.
