The SteinErlebnisRouten give Selsingen a clear focus on cycling: all three sections begin at the Treffpunkt Jugend und Rad by the Millenniumwald. Other highlights include the listed Heimathaus Greven Worth, St. Lamberti Church and the Elisabeth windmill. The outdoor swimming pool is also worth considering when planning a trip, but it is located outside Selsingen.

Cycling on the SteinErlebnisRouten

The SteinErlebnisRouten consist of three sections that can be ridden independently of one another. Together, they are about 100 kilometres long. This figure refers to the total length of the route network, not to each individual section. They all start at Treffpunkt Jugend und Rad by the Millenniumwald in Selsingen, on B 71/Im Sick. When planning a trip, you can therefore choose among three sections without changing the starting point.

The Selsingen cycling routes can also be considered within a wider regional context without equating them with other routes. In the wider Rotenburg destination, the Wümme Cycle Route is a circular route about 250 kilometres long that runs more or less along the Wümme. The comparison highlights the different scales: about 100 kilometres for the three Selsingen sections combined and about 250 kilometres for the regional circular route.

Heimathaus, Church and Windmill

The listed Heimathaus “Greven Worth” brings together several elements of a historic farmstead. These include a thatched two-post house dating from 1701, historic outbuildings and an exhibition featuring tools and materials from traditional crafts. The house offers an insight into traditional crafts, while the buildings themselves provide a distinct historical point of interest.

St. Lamberti Church in Selsingen dates from 1725. On the edge of the village stands the gallery-style windmill “Elisabeth”, which was rebuilt in 1983. The Selsingen Mill Preservation Association campaigned for its restoration and reconstruction. Together, the three sites offer different historical perspectives: the Heimathaus and its crafts exhibition, the church and its date, and the mill and its history of reconstruction.

The dates place this architectural and local history in chronological order: the two-post house from 1701 came first, followed by the church in 1725; the windmill was rebuilt much later, in 1983. This also makes it possible to distinguish the historic points of interest by their individual connections to the past, rather than viewing them as a single type of attraction.

Outdoor Swimming Pool Outside the Village

The outdoor swimming pool is outside Selsingen, on the road towards Sandbostel. Its pool measures 25 × 25 metres and includes a non-swimmer area. The grounds also feature a large beach volleyball court with particularly fine sand. The historic buildings and the shared starting point of the SteinErlebnisRouten, by contrast, are in Selsingen.

Hiking and Cycling in the Wider Rotenburg Destination

The wider Rotenburg destination offers more hiking and cycling options. The 24 NORDPFADE trails in Rotenburg district (Wümme) are circular hiking routes ranging from 5 to 32 kilometres. The NORDPFAD Ostetal passes through one of northern Germany’s most beautiful unspoilt river landscapes. This landscape includes dense floodplain forests, wet meadows, reed beds and steep slopes. The NORDPFADE are regional circular hiking routes, whereas the SteinErlebnisRouten in Selsingen are cycling routes.

The wider regional area also offers a separate cycling option: the Wümme Cycle Route is a circular route about 250 kilometres long that runs more or less along the Wümme. Its length differs considerably from the combined length of the three Selsingen sections.
