The ORTSWEG Rund um Mulmshorn trail leads through nature reserves, connecting wetlands and open fields with local history and a motorsport venue. An approximate walking time is provided for planning; visitors arriving by bus should check the timetable in advance.

Hiking Between Wetlands and Fields

The Mulmshorn hiking route passes through the Glindbusch and Wiestetal nature reserves. Landscape features include wet meadows, old wet alder forests, the Glindbach stream and open fields. Glindbusch is considered a wet forest area of approximately 235 hectares. Historic oak forest, alder-ash alluvial forest, natural streams and marshy sections shape its character. In the Wiestetal, the stream provides a habitat for, among others, otters and black storks. The route thus brings together different natural settings: open countryside, forest and waterways.

The ORTSWEG Rund um Mulmshorn is an easy, 8-kilometre circular trail. The stated walking time is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. This gives you an idea of how to plan your hiking day; check the current route information before setting out. The trail also passes the WĂĽmmering, the sand track of MSC Mulmshorn. Speedway, sidecar and cross-car races are held there. Nature and motorsport are therefore two very different aspects of the village.

Local History and Herbal Experiences

Historical points along the route include the rebuilt Old Peat Works, with an information board about its past; the old village centre, with farmhouses and horse paddocks; and a historic earth embankment near the cemetery. These stops draw attention to different traces of the village, without limiting the route to a single theme.

The trail starts at the Kräuterhotel Heidejäger, which has a herb garden. Guided herb tours are available by advance booking. The community centre grounds feature a herb wall and a wood-fired oven. The oven is used on baking days. Advance booking is important for a guided herb tour; baking days are the stated times when the oven is in use.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

There is a free car park at the Kräuterhotel Heidejäger. The route is a few minutes from the A1 motorway; the Bockel exit is a useful landmark. Visitors arriving by bus will find the Mulmshorn Ort stop 250 metres from the route. Route 800 runs Mondays to Saturdays between Rotenburg (Wümme) station and Zeven bus station. Check the timetable before travelling to make sure the operating days listed fit your plans.

In the wider destination of Rotenburg (WĂĽmme)

In the wider destination of Rotenburg (Wümme), the focus is on the town’s own water and cultural attractions. Stadtstreek is an artificial, 700-metre-long stream that flows through the town and beneath the pedestrian zone. The history of the town church can also be placed in context: it was moved to its present location in 1648 under Swedish rule, then rebuilt and consecrated in the Neo-Gothic style in 1862. Its stone tower dates from 1752.

The Heimathaus Rotenburg is a Lower Saxon hall house dating from 1779. Its collection comprises well over 3,000 individual items from Rotenburg and the surrounding area. On one set date each month, visitors can view the interior of the house, the exhibitions in the KĂĽbbungen, the Historic Room and the hearth in the Flett. The cultural routes cover two different distances: the Kulturpfad is eight kilometres long and has 35 stops. The approximately 20-kilometre NORDPFAD Rotenburger Wasserreich starts at the town hall and passes right by the Heimathaus.
