Bruchköbel combines historic sites in the town centre with buildings in its districts and opportunities for walks and cycle rides. Different themes can shape your trip planning: a walk to historic buildings or the approximately 30-kilometre 5-Star Circular Trail with its viewpoints. Train and bus connections, as well as a weekly market, round out the picture of the town.
Historic Sites in the Centre and Districts
At Freien Platz in the town centre, the tower of St James’ Church, the Old Town Hall and the former Lutheran church form an ensemble together with other buildings. The former church is now used as the town library. Historic buildings and a present-day public use thus come together in one place. If you explore Bruchköbel on foot, you can make the square a focal point for this part of the town’s history.
Individual buildings also shape the character of the districts. The Old Town Hall on Hanauer Straße was built around 1700 and is Roßdorf’s landmark; the town hall fountain and bakehouse are part of the site. In Niederissigheim, the Protestant church was built between 1735 and 1738. In Oberissigheim, the church and fountain on Langstraße are a familiar feature. The locations and construction dates differ, giving the historic theme more than one point of interest.
Exploring on Foot and by Bike
Historic buildings in the centre can be discovered on a walk. Information boards stand at buildings of historical interest; overview boards contain QR codes that you can scan to access further background information on your smartphone. This lets you take in the buildings as you walk and consult additional information if you wish. When planning, check whether the QR information is available.
Bruchköbel has seven designated cycling routes with detailed signposting. The “Green Ring” around Hanau also passes through Bruchköbel’s municipal area. If you are looking for a specific longer route, consider the “5-Star Circular Trail”: it is approximately 30 kilometres long, suitable for hiking and cycling, and passes four viewpoints.
You can follow the 5-Star Circular Trail by its waypoints: from the “Fliegerhorst” and “Frankfurt Skyline” viewpoints, it continues to Oberissigheim, via Butterstadt to the “Hohe Straße,” past Roßdorf and through Mittelbuchen into the forest. It is used as a recreational hiking trail year-round; athletic trekking events can also take place along the route. Planning for this differs from planning a ride on one of the seven signposted cycling routes: here, the focus is on a named route, its approximate length and four viewpoints. This does not provide any event dates.
Getting Here and Finding Your Way Around
Bruchköbel station is served by regional train RB 49. Express bus X95 connects Bruchköbel with Frankfurt; bus routes MKK30, MKK33, 562 and 563 connect the town with surrounding municipalities. Check the latest information from transport operators before travelling, as routes and connections may change. This allows you to plan your journey using the appropriate train or bus connection without assuming a particular route once you arrive.
The town’s indoor and outdoor swimming pool is centrally located and easy to reach by public transport. If you plan a visit, take its location into account and check separately whether the pool is currently open.
Weekly Market and Roßdorf Kerb Festival
The Bruchköbel weekly market is held once a week and offers fresh food from Bruchköbel and the immediate region, supplied by local producers. For a specific visit, it is advisable to check the current date. The market adds a distinct feature alongside the historic buildings and routes and can be included in your plans as a market visit.
In Roßdorf, the Kerb festival traditionally takes place on the third weekend of January, in time for the church’s anniversary. It includes a 400-metre race based on an old beer bet. As dates and programmes can vary, it is worth checking the event details in advance. Its traditional connection with the church anniversary sets the Kerb apart from the 5-Star Circular Trail’s year-round hiking opportunities.
