Rodenbach brings together nature, local history and different ways to explore: the bathing lake has a large swimming area divided into sections, the cultural trail can be explored in different ways, and the local history museum in Niederrodenbach focuses on rural everyday life. From the vineyard in Oberrodenbach, the view stretches to the Frankfurt skyline and the Feldberg. When choosing your destination, you can consider whether trails, historical themes, views or water should shape your stay.

Trails, walks and views

You can hike the Rodenbach Cultural Trail on two loops or walk it as one large circuit. A historical walk also takes you through the town center, whose buildings mostly date from the 18th century. This gives you different options: several route variations on the cultural trail, or a walk focused on the historic buildings in the town center.

The Rodenbach Historical Society developed the Northern and Southern Boundary Stone Routes, which lead to historic boundary stones. This extends the historical theme beyond the buildings in the town center. The vineyard in Oberrodenbach offers a different perspective: from there, the view stretches to the Frankfurt skyline and the Feldberg in the Taunus. The cityscape and Taunus views add a scenic note alongside the cultural and historical themes.

Local history museum and bathing lake

The Rodenbach Local History Museum is located at Kirchstraße 9 in the Niederrodenbach district. It is housed in a half-timbered building dating from 1717. The permanent exhibitions explore aspects of the village’s rural past; exhibits include agricultural, craft and household equipment. These three groups of objects give everyday village life a tangible place in the exhibition. For your stay, the museum offers a different focus from the walks and viewpoints: local history explored through the building, exhibition themes and objects.

The Rodenbach bathing lake is a natural lake. Its swimming area covers approximately 30,000 m² and is divided into areas for non-swimmers and swimmers. On April 28, 2026, the municipality announced that the bathing facility would not open. Check the facility’s status before visiting.

More destinations in the Main-Kinzig district

Rodenbach is part of the wider Main-Kinzig district destination. The Kinzig rises in the northeastern part of the district, near Sinntal-Sterbfritz, and flows into the Main at Hanau. The river provides a geographical point of reference for the district, while its individual towns offer different cultural and landscape themes.

The Gelnhausen Museum, housed in the former Augustaschule on Obermarkt, is designed as a hands-on museum for families. Children and adults can experience history through touch, hearing, smell, participation and experimentation during guided tours, workshops, treasure hunts and other educational museum activities. The program may change; check the current offerings before your visit.

The orchard meadow area from Bergen-Enkheim to Maintal-Hochstadt offers a different nature-focused experience. It covers around 320 hectares; some of its sunny slopes are protected. In spring, flowering trees and colorful meadows invite visitors to take walks and excursions. In Bad Orb, the 9 m-high Wartturm on Molkenberg combines a viewpoint with a landmark for hikers: from there, the panorama stretches across Bad Orb, the Spessart and the Vogelsberg.

The Kinzigsee in Langenselbold offers another regional focus. The lake has a sandy beach, a large sunbathing lawn and clear water; activities include swimming, sunbathing, beach volleyball, sailing, windsurfing and stand-up paddling. Seasonal details may change. Alongside Rodenbach’s cultural trail, local history and vineyard views, the Main-Kinzig district therefore offers other distinct nature and cultural themes to explore.
