Mörfelden-Walldorf offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: trails through the countryside, lakes and protected areas, as well as cultural and historical attractions. There are 24 hiking routes around the city, each offering different views. There are also individual trails and places that are ideal for walks or bike rides. If you are looking for accommodation, you can tailor your plans to whether nature experiences or the city’s history will be the focus of your stay.

Hiking Trails and Bike Rides

The hiking trail marked with a red fox passes by Mönchbruch. The nearby nature reserve has numerous trails and tree-lined avenues for long walks and extended bike rides. You can cycle along the Gundbach through the Gundwiesen between Gundwiesensee and Gundhof. The Tree of the Year Avenue between the forest lodge and Oberwaldberg can be explored on foot or by bike, and offers an opportunity to learn.

The Groß-Gerau district’s cycling route network connects Mörfelden-Walldorf with neighboring communities via more than seven routes. Oberwaldberg offers panoramic views of the region, while the Regional Park Circular Route runs along Oberwaldsee. In addition to hiking routes, visitors can choose from regional cycling connections and trails with different themes.

Lakes and Protected Nature

Oberwaldsee covers 12 hectares, and Schnepfensee has a water surface of 3 hectares. Together, they form a waterscape with numerous fish species and a diverse variety of birds and plants. The area in and around Gundwiesensee is protected. If you are looking for a specific walking route, there is a circular trail at the Walldorfer See bathing area measuring just under 2.4 kilometers. Operating arrangements and seasonal details for swimming may change; check the current conditions before your visit.

City History and Culture

Mörfelden Museum offers insights into the history of the city and the way of life in Mörfelden, from the earliest traces of settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. The rest of the permanent exhibition focuses on the everyday life of Mörfelden’s residents from around 1870 to 1945. Its themes therefore range from early traces of settlement to a later, clearly defined period of everyday life.

In the sculpture park in Bürgerpark Mörfelden on Parkstraße, the Sports and Cultural Office and the Friends of the Sculpture Park jointly present object art, sculptures and installation works by artists from different generations. The cultural program is ongoing, and individual editions vary. Hüttenkirche has stood between the districts of Mörfelden and Walldorf since 1986. Together with elements of the former runway wall, it is one of the notable reminders of Mörfelden-Walldorf’s postwar history and a symbol of one of Germany’s largest environmental movements to date.

The annual planting of the respective Tree of the Year is also part of the local landscape’s history: the City of Mörfelden-Walldorf plants it each year together with the German Forest Protection Association.
