In Wolfshagen, landscape history, a named circular trail and a Neo-Gothic church with cultural uses come together. There are several ways to plan your visit: take a walk through the park, go around the Haussee or admire the village’s architecture.
Park Landscape and History
The 3.1-hectare landscape park was redesigned by Peter Joseph Lenné in the English style. A walk through the park takes you across the 60-metre-long tiled bridge to the monument commemorating the Wars of Liberation of 1813 to 1815. The park, bridge and monument thus connect a landscaped setting with a specific historical reference.
The Haussee Circular Trail and Blankenburg
A two-kilometre hiking trail, mostly through woodland, loops around the 52-hectare Haussee. Along the way, you can access the remains of Blankenburg Castle and its restored, 24-metre-high keep. The route thus combines a clearly specified distance with scenery and a historical destination.
If you are choosing between the two types of walk, the Haussee trail offers a clearly stated length of two kilometres. A walk through the park, by contrast, focuses on the landscaping, the tiled bridge and the monument.
Church and Cultural Uses
Wolfshagen Church is an elaborately designed Neo-Gothic building, completed in 1858. Figures of Luther and Calvin stand at the main portal. Today, the church is used as a cultural and community centre and for civil wedding ceremonies. Its architectural history and present-day uses give the village another focus, distinct from its walking routes.
Planning Your Stay
Wolfshagen is located directly on the B 198 federal highway. If you are considering the village as a place to stay overnight, you can base your choice on the sights that interest you most: the route around the Haussee, the park and its monument, or the church and its cultural uses. This way, your choice of location can focus on which aspects of Wolfshagen best suit your travel plans.
