In Nordwestuckermark, water, trails and local history offer different reasons to stay. In Naugarten, the lake, signposted cycling and hiking trails, and a gallery featuring changing works of art invite you to explore in different ways. Fürstenwerder showcases striking buildings around its historic centre, while the castle church in Kröchlendorff serves as a cultural and event centre. When choosing accommodation, it helps to set a clear priority: Do you mainly want to spend time by the water, follow a route, or explore architectural history and culture? Each place has its own highlights to help guide your search.

Water and Trails near Naugarten

The municipality-owned lake near Naugarten, covering around 33 hectares, is ideal for swimming and fishing. Walking around it offers an impressive nature experience. Naugarten also has bicycle and boat rental services; check current local information before planning, as availability may change. Signposted, unpaved cycling and hiking trails invite you to take short walks and longer tours, including guided tours to notable points of interest.

The Uckermark Circular Route connects Angermünde, Templin and Prenzlau. Coming from Boitzenburg, it passes through Naugarten and continues towards Gollmitz. The 55-kilometre “Trail of the Stones” runs mostly along a former railway embankment through the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park, from Templin via Warthe and Boitzenburg to Fürstenwerder. The distinction matters when choosing: the circular route passes specifically through Naugarten, while the “Trail of the Stones” is 55 kilometres long and leads to Fürstenwerder.

FĂĽrstenwerder: Wall, Gates and Church

A fieldstone wall around 1,300 metres long encloses the historic centre of FĂĽrstenwerder. The Berliner Tor and Woldegker Tor have pointed-arch passageways and are among the oldest of their kind in northern Germany. The church also adds a historical dimension: built of fieldstone, it dates from the mid-13th century. The promenade, laid out in 1900 and lined with old chestnut trees, runs around the town wall, adding a walk through the town to the view of its architectural landmarks.

Ruins, Art and Crafts

Between Wittstock and Rittgarten, at the edge of the road to Augustfelde, stands the ruin of the Wüsten Church in Wittstock. The rectangular fieldstone building, with its transversely rectangular west tower, dates from the 13th century; the lower part of the tower and sections of the nave’s enclosing walls remain. These surviving parts make it possible to imagine the form of the former church building.

The cultural highlights vary from place to place: the castle church in Kröchlendorff serves the community as a cultural and event centre. At Hof Kokurin in Naugarten, a gallery displays constantly changing paintings, wooden sculptures and small-scale artworks. The Fürstenwerder Local History Museum focuses mainly on traditional village crafts. Together, a community event venue, changing art exhibitions and the history of crafts cater to different interests.
